2013 Nova Scotia General Election
The 2013 Nova Scotia general election was held on October 8, 2013, to elect members to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. The result of the election was a Liberal victory under the leadership of Stephen McNeil, with the party winning its first election since 1998. The Progressive Conservatives, under the leadership of Jamie Baillie, improved on their 2009 results and formed the Official Opposition, despite winning fewer votes than the New Democratic Party (NDP). The NDP, which had won power for the first time in 2009 under the leadership of Darrell Dexter was reduced to third place and became only the second one-term government in the province's history, and the first since 1882. Nova Scotia Liberal Party
The Nova Scotia Liberal Party is a centrist provincial political party in Nova Scotia, Canada and the provincial section of the Liberal Party of Canada. The party currently forms the Official Opposition in Nova Scotia, under the leadership of Zach Churchill. The party was in power most recently from the 2013 election until the 2021 election. Origins The party is descended from the pre-Confederation Reformers in Nova Scotia who coalesced around Joseph Howe demanding the institution of responsible government. The Liberals (Reformers) formed several governments in the colony between 1848 and 1867. The party split during the debate on Confederation, with Howe and most other Liberals forming an Anti-Confederation Party, while supporters of confederation joined Tory Charles Tupper's Confederation Party. Allan MacMaster
Allan Gerard MacMaster (born September 26, 1974) is a Canadian politician. He represents the electoral district of Inverness in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly as a member of the Progressive Conservative Party. Early life and career He is the son of Marie and Buddy MacMaster, and grew up in the community of Judique in Inverness County. He graduated from St. Francis Xavier University with a degree in business administration. Prior to being elected, MacMaster worked as an investment advisor with BMO Nesbitt Burns, and authored a monthly column for the ''Nova Scotia Business Journal'' entitled "Building Your Wealth". Inverness (provincial Electoral District)
Inverness is a provincial electoral district on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada, that elects one member of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. Initially created with the name "Juste-au-Corps", the electoral district of Inverness has existed in various forms since 1836. The name was changed to Inverness after lobbying by William Young. It existed continuously as Inverness County until 1981 when it was divided into Inverness North and Inverness South. It was re-formed in 1993. Angus MacIsaac
Angus "Tando" MacIsaac (born June 4, 1943) is a politician, educator and businessman in Nova Scotia, Canada. Political career Angus MacIsaac's father, Alexander MacIsaac, was MLA of Guysborough prior to October 1968. Upon Alexander MacIsaac's death, a by-election was called. Angus MacIsaac, then 25 years old, ran, and was first elected to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly on February 11, 1969. MacIsaac ran as a Progressive Conservative and obtained a 371-vote margin of victory. MacIsaac was re-elected with a 265-vote margin on October 13, 1970, in a general election. On September 17, 1972, MacIsaac resigned his seat to run federally for the Progressive Conservatives in Cape Breton Highlands—Canso.
