2013 NHL Entry Draft
The 2013 NHL Entry Draft was the 51st NHL Entry Draft. All seven rounds of the draft took place on June 30, 2013, at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The top three selections were Nathan MacKinnon going to the Colorado Avalanche, Aleksander Barkov going to the Florida Panthers, and Jonathan Drouin going to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Eligibility Ice hockey players born between January 1, 1993, and September 15, 1995, were eligible for selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Additionally, un-drafted, non-North American players born in 1992 were eligible for the draft; and those players who were drafted in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, but not signed by an NHL team and who were born after June 30, 1993, were also eligible to re-enter the draft. Prudential Center
Prudential Center is a multi-purpose indoor arena in the central business district of Newark, New Jersey. Opened in 2007, it is the home of the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League (NHL) and the men's basketball program of Seton Hall University, known as the Seton Hall Pirates. The arena officially seats 16,514 patrons for hockey games and up to 18,711 for basketball. Defenceman
Defence or defense (in American English) in ice hockey is a player position that is primarily responsible for preventing the opposing team from scoring. They are often referred to as defencemen, D, D-men or blueliners (the latter a reference to the blue line in ice hockey which represents the boundary of the offensive zone; defencemen generally position themselves along the line to keep the puck in the zone). They were once called cover-point. In regular play, two defencemen complement three forwards and a goaltender on the ice. Exceptions include overtime during the regular season and when a team is shorthanded (i.e. has been assessed a penalty), in which two defencemen are typically joined by only two forwards and a goaltender. Frédérik Gauthier
Frédérik Gauthier (born April 26, 1995) is a Canadian professional ice hockey centre currently under contract with HC Ajoie of the National League (NL). Gauthier was selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round, 21st overall, of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft after spending three years with the Rimouski Océanic in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). Gauthier became a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs organization following the 2014–15 season. During his developmental years with the Maple Leafs American Hockey League affiliate, the Toronto Marlies, he helped them clinch their first Calder Cup in franchise history. Jacob De La Rose
Jacob Waldemar de la Rose (born 20 May 1995) is a Swedish professional ice hockey forward currently playing for HC Fribourg-Gottéron of the National League (NL). de la Rose was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the second round, 34th overall, of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. He previously played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Canadiens, Detroit Red Wings and St. Louis Blues. Since 2010, de la Rose has played for the Swedish national teams at the junior levels, winning silver medals at the 2012 IIHF World U18 Championships and the 2013 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships. Valentin Valentinovich Zykov (russian: Валентин Валентинович Зыков; born 15 May 1995) is a Russian professional ice hockey winger who is currently playing for SKA Saint Petersburg in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). He was selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the second round (37th overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Zykov was a top prospect who was ranked number eight on the NHL Central Scouting Bureau's final ranking of North American skaters. He was expected to be a first round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, but went in the second round, 37th overall, to the Los Angeles Kings. André Burakovsky
André Burakovsky (also stylized as Burakowsky; born 9 February 1995) is an Austrian-born Swedish professional ice hockey forward for the Seattle Kraken of the National Hockey League (NHL). He has previously played for the Washington Capitals, who drafted him 23rd overall in 2013, along with the Colorado Avalanche, who acquired his rights and consequently signed him during the 2019 offseason. Burakovsky is a two-time Stanley Cup champion, winning with the Capitals in 2018 and the Avalanche in 2022. Hunter Shinkaruk (born October 13, 1994) is a Canadian professional ice hockey winger who is currently playing for Dinamo Riga in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). Shinkaruk was originally selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the 1st round (24th overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Alexander Wennberg
Alexander Wennberg (born 22 September 1994) is a Swedish professional ice hockey player for the Seattle Kraken of the National Hockey League (NHL). He previously played for the Columbus Blue Jackets and Florida Panthers. He was drafted by the Blue Jackets in the first round, 14th overall, of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Before joining the NHL, Wennberg played professionally in the Swedish Hockey League. Sean Monahan (born October 12, 1994) is a Canadian professional ice hockey centre for the Montreal Canadiens of the National Hockey League (NHL). Monahan was selected sixth overall by the Calgary Flames, at the 2013 NHL Entry Draft and he played junior hockey with the Ottawa 67's of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) where he served as team captain. Darnell Nurse (born February 4, 1995) is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman and alternate captain for the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League (NHL). Elias Lindholm
Elias Viktor Zebulon Lindholm (born 2 December 1994) is a Swedish professional ice hockey player and an alternate captain for the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the first round (5th overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, and spent his first five NHL seasons with them.
