2013 FIBA Africa Championship
AfroBasket 2013 was the 27th FIBA Africa Championship, played under the rules of FIBA, the world governing body for basketball, and the FIBA Africa thereof. The tournament was hosted by Ivory Coast from August 20 to 31, all games were played at the Palais des Sports de Treichville, Abidjan. Angola defeated Egypt 57–40 in the final to win their eleventh title. Format The sixteen teams were split into four groups. Every team advanced to the knockout stage and participated at the Round of 16. The winners advanced to the quarterfinals to play out the champion. The losers from those quarterfinals played for the places 5–8. The defeated teams from the round of 16 were ranked by their preliminary round results and played placement games for the places 9–16. Abidjan
Abidjan ( , ; N’ko: ߊߓߌߖߊ߲߬) is the economic capital of the Ivory Coast. As of the 2021 census, Abidjan's population was 6.3 million, which is 21.5 percent of overall population of the country, making it the sixth most populous city proper in Africa, after Lagos, Cairo, Kinshasa, Dar es Salaam, and Johannesburg. FIBA Africa Championship 2009
AfroBasket 2009 was the 25th FIBA Africa Championship, played under the auspices of the Fédération Internationale de Basketball, the basketball sport governing body, and the African zone thereof. At stake were the three berths allocated to Africa in the 2010 FIBA World Championship. The tournament was hosted by Libya after Nigeria, the original host, withdrew from hosting after not conforming to FIBA Africa guidelines. Angola won its sixth consecutive African championship and tenth overall by beating Côte d'Ivoire 82-72 in the championship game. Tunisia won the bronze medal game over Cameroon to earn its first-ever FIBA World Championship berth. Angola, Côte d'Ivoire, and Tunisia move on to represent Africa at the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Turkey. Mehdi Cheriet (born April 12, 1987) is a French-Algerian professional basketball player who currently plays for SO Maritime Boulogne of the Nationale Masculine 1 in France. Collegiate career After completing his years at Albert Thomas School in Roanne, France, Cheriet enrolled in Arizona Western College in Yuma, Arizona. He helped the team win their third consecutive JUCO Region I championship and the NJCAA district finals in his freshman season. As a sophomore, Cheriet was known as a premier NJCAA basketball player and was ranked the 17th-best junior college player by Rivals.com. Mouloukou Souleyman Diabate (born 21 July 1987), commonly known as Solo Diabate, is an Ivorian basketball player who plays for Petro de Luanda of the Angolan Basketball League and the Basketball Africa League (BAL).
