2010 WPA World Nine-ball Championship
The 2010 WPA World Nine-ball Championship was the professional nine-ball pocket billiards (pool) championship, sanctioned by the World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA). It was held from 29 June through 5 July in Doha, Qatar, hosted by the Qatar Billiards and Snooker Federation. Qualifying tournaments were held from 25 through 29 June in the same city. Tournament format *Double elimination tournament during the group stage. All matches are races to nine racks. *There are 16 groups; each group has eight players. Two wins qualifies the player to the knockout round, while two losses eliminates them. *Single elimination tournament during the knockout stage. All matches are races to eleven racks, except for the final which is race to 13. Imran Majid (Urdu: امران مجید) (born 4 October 1972 in London) is an English professional pool player. Early life and career Majid was born in London to parents who emigrated from Lahore, Punjab. Majid, whose nickname is "The Maharaja", was winner of the 2007 Weert Open and the Italian Euro Tour event in 2006. He made his Mosconi Cup debut in the 2006 edition in Rotterdam. Charlie Williams (born January 5, 1977, in Seoul, South Korea) is an American professional pool player. Williams represented America as a player at the Mosconi Cup 5 times ( 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005) and as a non-playing captain in 2011. In 2001, Williams founded the sports marketing company Dragon Promotions. At the 2008 WPA World Ten-ball Championships, Williams would reach the quarter-finals, defeating Chang Jung-Lin (9-8), and Fu Che-wei (9-5), before losing to Darren Appleton 11–5. In 2011, Williams reached the semi-finals of the Dragon 14.1 Tournament but lost to Mike Davis. Thorsten Hohmann (born 14 July 1979 in Fulda, West Germany) is a German professional pool player, nicknamed "the Hitman." He is a three-time world champion, winning the WPA World Nine-ball Championship in 2003, and 2013, and winning the WPA World Straight Pool Championship in 2006. Career Early life Thorsten was born and raised in Fulda, Germany and at a very young age had always been interested in sports, playing football, table tennis and badminton. At the age of nine Thorsten's father took him to a local pool hall. On his 10th birthday Thorsten received a miniature pool table. Scott Higgins (born 9 June 1976) is an Australian former footballer who played as a goalkeeper. His career saw him play in three different continents, Australia, Europe, and the Middle East. Football career Club career He started his professional footballing career in the NSL with Canberra Cosmos and later returning to Queensland with Brisbane Strikers. In the relaunched A-League, he secured a deal with Queensland Roar in 2005, before moving to Europe in June 2006 to join Scottish Premier League club Falkirk. Joven Alba (born 24 August 1969) is a Filipino professional pool and snooker player. Alba was a professional pool player between 2009 and 2013, and having played snooker beforehand. Alba's biggest accomplishment was winning the team snooker event at the 2005 Southeast Asian Games. Marlon Manalo (born November 27, 1975, in Mandaluyong, Philippines) is a former Filipino professional pool player from Mandaluyong, Philippines. He became the League of Barangays of the Philippines Press Relation Officer and ABC president.
