2008 ISSF World Cup
The 2008 ISSF World Cup was the twenty-third annual edition of the ISSF World Cup in the Olympic shooting events, governed by the International Shooting Sport Federation. Four qualification competitions were held in each event, spanning from March to June, and the best shooters qualified for the ISSF World Cup Final, which was carried out in September in Minsk for the shotgun events, and in November in Bangkok for the other events. Apart from those who qualified through the 2008 World Cup competitions, the defending champions and all medalists from the 2008 Summer Olympics were also invited to the final. ISSF World Cup
The ISSF World Cup was introduced by the International Shooting Sport Federation in 1986 to provide a homogeneous system for qualification to the Olympic shooting competitions. It still is carried out in the Olympic shooting events, with four competitions per year in each event. For the best shooters there is since 1988 a ''World Cup Final''. World Cup Final The World Cup Final in rifle and pistol is often, but not always, held in Munich as the ISSF shooting season ending competition. The location and date of the World Cup Final in shotgun are more flexible. 2008 ISSF World Cup Final (shotgun)
The 2008 ISSF World Cup Final in shotgun events was held on 27–30 September in Minsk, Belarus. It was the last major worldwide shotgun competition in 2008, and the next-to-last part of the 2008 ISSF World Cup, to be concluded with the rifle and pistol finals in Bangkok a month later. There were twelve spots in each of the five events. The defending champion from the 2007 World Cup Final and all medalists of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing qualified automatically for Minsk. The remaining eight qualified through a special point-awarding system based on their best performance during the World Cup season, skipping past automatic qualifiers. Not counting the defending champion and the Olympic medalists, there was a maximum of two shooters per event from the same country. Alin Moldoveanu (; born 3 May 1983, in Focșani) is a Romanian 10 m Air Rifle sport shooter, Olympic champion at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Péter Sidi (born 11 September 1978 in Komárom) is a Hungarian sport shooter. He has been world champion in the 50 m rifle 3 positions, as well as winning silver medals in the 300 m rifle prone and the men's 10 metre air rifle. He has also won bronze medals in the 50 metre rifle 3 positions and the 50 m rifle prone team event. He currently holds the qualification world record in 10 m Air Rifle. Stevan Pletikosić
Stevan Pletikosić ( sr-cyrl, Стеван Плетикосић) (born 14 March 1972 in Kragujevac, Serbia, then SFR Yugoslavia) is a sport shooter from Serbia. While still a junior, he won a bronze medal in Men's 50 m Rifle Prone in the 1992 Summer Olympics. The year before, at the 1991 ISSF World Cup in the same event, he had become the only junior ever to achieve the maximum score of 600 in a world-class competition. Pletikosić started competing in 1982, when he was 10 years old. He won a first medal at the European Championships winning a silver at the 1989 European Shooting Championships in Zagreb, SFR Yugoslavia. During his career, he won another European silver medal and was European champion twice. Thomas Farnik, born 6 January 1967 in Vienna, is an Austrian rifle shooter. He was twelve years old when his father introduced him to shooting. He started with a rifle, and his father remained involved with his early training. He competed at six consecutive Olympics from 1992 to 2012. His best position was fifth in the Three Positions at the 2008 Olympics, when he was 2.8 points behind the bronze medal score of 1271.7. He also came sixth in the 10m Air Rifle at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and the 50m Three Positions at the 2004 Athens Olympics. He won gold in the 10m Air Rifle at the 2006 ISSF World Cup, setting a world record of 703.1 at the finals in Granada that survived till 2008 (when it was broken by Gagan Narang). 10 metre air rifle (N.B. For "Meter" in this article – read "Metre") is an International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) shooting event, shot at a bullseye target over a distance of using a calibre air rifle with a maximum weight of . It is one of the ISSF-governed shooting sports included in the Summer Olympics since the 1984 Los Angeles Games. Shots are fired from the standing position only, as opposed to some other airgun disciplines such as for three positions (popular in the United States) or in disabled sports, which allows sitting and prone positions.
