Alejandro Ocana (born in 1973), better known by his stage name 2Mex, is a rapper from Los Angeles, California, United States. He is a member of The Visionaries and of Mexican Descent. He has collaborated with underground hip hop artists such as Jel, Omid, Thavius Beck, Factor Chandelier, Radioinactive, and Isaiah "Ikey" Owens. History 2Mex attended the Good Life Cafe open mic nights in 1992, which played a significant role in shaping his early career. In 1998, he released his first album with The Visionaries, as well as the debut album of Of Mexican Descent. He was also featured on the Omid compilation album ''Beneath the Surface''. ''Sweat Lodge Infinite'' is a solo studio album by American rapper 2Mex. It was released on Temporary Whatever in 2003. Entirely produced by Longevity, it features guest appearances from Aceyalone, Busdriver, Kemit, Existereo, Liferexall, St. Mark 9:23, and Awol One. Critical reception David Morris of ''PopMatters'' gave the album a mixed review, saying, "2Mex falls short of bringing truly next level shit, but he's really doing his damnedest, and there's definite pleasure to be had in hearing him reach." Omid Walizadeh
Omid Walizadeh, also known as Omid or OD, is a hip hop producer based in Long Beach, California. He has produced tracks for the likes of Freestyle Fellowship, Busdriver, 2Mex, Subtitle (rapper), Subtitle, and Awol One. History Omid Walizadeh graduated from Loyola Marymount University with a bachelor's degree in recording arts. He has produced tracks since 1992. Inspired by the underground hip hop movement at the Good Life Cafe in the early 1990s, he released a collaborative album, ''Beneath the Surface'', in 1998. It featured over 30 rappers, mainly from Los Angeles. His solo debut album, ''Distant Drummer (album), Distant Drummer'', was released on Beneath the Surface in 2002. It was inspired by Dan Simmons' novel ''Hyperion (Simmons novel), Hyperion'', the music of Sun Ra, among other things. Regan Farquhar (born February 12, 1978), better known by his stage name Busdriver (sometimes stylized in all caps), is an American rapper and producer from Los Angeles. He has collaborated with rappers such as Myka 9, R.A.P. Ferreira, Nocando, Open Mike Eagle, 2Mex, Aesop Rock and Radioinactive. His primary producers have been Daedelus, Boom Bip, Daddy Kev, Loden, Paris Zax, Omid, Kenny Segal, and Nobody. He has also worked with D-Styles on two albums. Originally this involved tape dubbing and photocopying covers. In 1999, while working at the radio station WRIU (90.3 FM), he was allowed access to the station's computers and CD-Rs replaced the tapes. The albums were sold locally, raising money to press CDs at a manufacturing plant. In late 2005, Strange Famous Records enlisted the help of outside parties to create an online webstore www.strangefamousrecords.com. The online store was soon developed and a mail order business was set into effect. This was a "cash only" postal mail service. Elvin Estela (born March 14, 1977), better known by his stage name Nobody, is an American hip hop producer based in Los Angeles, California. He is a resident DJ at Low End Theory. Good Life Cafe
The Good Life Cafe was a health food market and cafe run by Janie Mae Scott-Goodkin aka IfaSade in Los Angeles, California, known for its open mic nights that helped the 1990s Los Angeles alternative hip hop movement flourish. In 2008, director Ava DuVernay, who had performed at the cafe with the Figures of Speech hip hop group, released a documentary about the cafe, '' This Is The Life''. The film featured a number of hip hop artists discussing the importance of the Good Life Cafe to themselves and the hip hop scene. The Cafe was open from 1989 to 1999. It was described as "a platform for rappers to perform their material" and "a testing ground for Los Angeles' independent rap scene".
