268 (number)
260 (two hundred ndsixty) is the natural number following 259 and preceding 261. It is also the magic constant of the ''n''×''n'' normal magic square and ''n''-queens problem for ''n'' = 8, the size of an actual chess board. 260 is also the magic constant of the Franklin magic square devised by Benjamin Franklin. The minor diagonal gives 260, and in addition a number of combinations of two half diagonals of four numbers from a corner to the center give 260. There are 260 days in the Mayan sacred calendar Tzolkin. 260 may also refer to the years AD 260 and 260 BC. Prime Number
A prime number (or a prime) is a natural number greater than 1 that is not a product of two smaller natural numbers. A natural number greater than 1 that is not prime is called a composite number. For example, 5 is prime because the only ways of writing it as a product, or , involve 5 itself. However, 4 is composite because it is a product (2 × 2) in which both numbers are smaller than 4. Primes are central in number theory because of the fundamental theorem of arithmetic: every natural number greater than 1 is either a prime itself or can be factorized as a product of primes that is unique up to their order. The property of being prime is called primality. A simple but slow method of checking the primality of a given number n, called trial division, tests whether n is a multiple of any integer between 2 and \sqrt. Faster algorithms include the Miller–Rabin primality test, which is fast but has a small chance of error, and the AKS primality test, which alw ... Twin Prime
A twin prime is a prime number that is either 2 less or 2 more than another prime number—for example, either member of the twin prime pair (41, 43). In other words, a twin prime is a prime that has a prime gap of two. Sometimes the term ''twin prime'' is used for a pair of twin primes; an alternative name for this is prime twin or prime pair. Twin primes become increasingly rare as one examines larger ranges, in keeping with the general tendency of gaps between adjacent primes to become larger as the numbers themselves get larger. However, it is unknown whether there are infinitely many twin primes (the so-called twin prime conjecture) or if there is a largest pair. The breakthrough work of Yitang Zhang in 2013, as well as work by James Maynard, Terence Tao and others, has made substantial progress towards proving that there are infinitely many twin primes, but at present this remains unsolved. Properties Usually the pair (2, 3) is not considered to be a pair of twin primes. ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Ramanujan Prime
In mathematics, a Ramanujan prime is a prime number that satisfies a result proven by Srinivasa Ramanujan relating to the prime-counting function. Origins and definition In 1919, Ramanujan published a new proof of Bertrand's postulate which, as he notes, was first proved by Chebyshev. At the end of the two-page published paper, Ramanujan derived a generalized result, and that is: : \pi(x) - \pi\left( \frac x 2 \right) \ge 1,2,3,4,5,\ldots \text x \ge 2, 11, 17, 29, 41, \ldots \text where \pi(x) is the prime-counting function, equal to the number of primes less than or equal to ''x''. The converse of this result is the definition of Ramanujan primes: :The ''n''th Ramanujan prime is the least integer ''Rn'' for which \pi(x) - \pi(x/2) \ge n, for all ''x'' ≥ ''Rn''. In other words: Ramanujan primes are the least integers ''Rn'' for which there are at least ''n'' primes between ''x'' and ''x''/2 for all ''x'' ≥ ''Rn''. The first five Ramanujan pr ... Determinant
In mathematics, the determinant is a scalar value that is a function of the entries of a square matrix. It characterizes some properties of the matrix and the linear map represented by the matrix. In particular, the determinant is nonzero if and only if the matrix is invertible and the linear map represented by the matrix is an isomorphism. The determinant of a product of matrices is the product of their determinants (the preceding property is a corollary of this one). The determinant of a matrix is denoted , , or . The determinant of a matrix is :\begin a & b\\c & d \end=ad-bc, and the determinant of a matrix is : \begin a & b & c \\ d & e & f \\ g & h & i \end= aei + bfg + cdh - ceg - bdi - afh. The determinant of a matrix can be defined in several equivalent ways. Leibniz formula expresses the determinant as a sum of signed products of matrix entries such that each summand is the product of different entries, and the number of these summands is n!, the factorial o ... Logical Matrix
A logical matrix, binary matrix, relation matrix, Boolean matrix, or (0, 1) matrix is a matrix with entries from the Boolean domain Such a matrix can be used to represent a binary relation between a pair of finite sets. Matrix representation of a relation If ''R'' is a binary relation between the finite indexed sets ''X'' and ''Y'' (so ), then ''R'' can be represented by the logical matrix ''M'' whose row and column indices index the elements of ''X'' and ''Y'', respectively, such that the entries of ''M'' are defined by :M_ = \begin 1 & (x_i, y_j) \in R, \\ 0 & (x_i, y_j) \not\in R. \end In order to designate the row and column numbers of the matrix, the sets ''X'' and ''Y'' are indexed with positive integers: ''i'' ranges from 1 to the cardinality (size) of ''X'', and ''j'' ranges from 1 to the cardinality of ''Y''. See the entry on indexed sets for more detail. Example The binary relation ''R'' on the set is defined so that ''aRb'' holds if and only if ''a' ... Hawkmoon 269
"Hawkmoon 269" is a song by Irish rock band U2 and is the fourth track on their 1988 album, ''Rattle and Hum''. Recording "Hawkmoon 269" was recorded in Hollywood, California in Sunset Sound studios. The name "Hawkmoon" was inspired by the town of Hawkmoon, North Dakota, which U2 had passed through while on tour.(There is no town in either Dakota's named Hawkmoon). This name was probably inspired by a Sam Shepard book. The number "269" in the title refers to the number of mixes the song went through before the final recorded version, according to the Edge, who said they spent three weeks on the track. Bob Dylan plays the Hammond organ on this track; Dylan also collaborated with Bono on writing another of the songs on Rattle and Hum, ''Love Rescue Me''. In addition, U2 covers the Dylan song ''All Along the Watchtower'' on Rattle and Hum ''Rattle and Hum'' is a hybrid live/studio album by Irish Rock music, rock band U2, and a companion rockumentary film directed by Phil Jo ... Area Code 269
Area code 269 is the telephone area code serving the southwest portion of Michigan's Lower Peninsula. History ''269'' was created as a split of area code 616 on July 13, 2002. The 269 area covers roughly the lower third of 616 before the split. Frontier and AT&T are the predominant local telephone carriers. Service area Communities using ''269'' include Decatur, Dowagiac, Allegan, Battle Creek, Kalamazoo, Buchanan, Paw Paw, Portage, Otsego, Plainwell, St. Joseph, Benton Harbor, Marshall, Niles, Three Rivers, Sturgis, South Haven, Berrien Springs, and Bridgman. Calf 269
Calf 269 is a bull who was rescued as a calf by anonymous activists, days before his planned slaughter. He was born at an Israeli facility in the vicinity of Azor, a town on the outskirts of Tel Aviv. The slaughter was scheduled for June 2013. He is described as sweet-tempered and white-headed, and his ear carried a tag numbered 269, indicating he was destined for slaughter. The Israeli protests regarding the calf were followed by protests in the U.K. and other places across the world. The protests aimed at conveying that animal parts eaten as food by humans once belonged to a living individual, who lived a tortured life and faced a brutal death, after which his or her carcass was processed into human food. The significance of the event led to the creation of "''269 life''"( :fr:269 Life France), an animal liberation movement founded in October 2012.
