20syl
Sylvain Richard (born February 17, 1979), better known by his stage name 20syl (pronounced "vain-seel", ), is a French Rapping, rapper, disc jockey, and Producer (music), producer. He is a composer and MC (hip hop), MC in the group Hocus Pocus (group), Hocus Pocus, a member of the beatmaker collective of DJs C2C (group), C2C, one half of the Hip-Hop/electronic duo AllttA, and the quadruple world champion Disco Mix Club, DMC Team. He published his first Extended play, EP, ''Motifs'', in 2014, followed by ''Motifs II'' in 2015. During his career, he also produced for artists and groups such as Diam's, Disiz, Kohndo, Slum Village, Fabe (French rapper), Fabe, Scred Connexion, Nakk, and Sully Sefil and was involved in projects such as ''Just Us vol.1'' or ''Original Bombattak''. Hocus Pocus (group)
Hocus Pocus is a French hip hop music, hip hop / jazz music, jazz band from Nantes. Formed in 1995, their music is a mix of hip hop, jazz, Soul music, soul and funk. Originally being 20syl's brainchild, Hocus Pocus was formed in 1995, and gradually gained attention in the late '90s. The band, however, reached significant commercial and critical success in 2006 with the re-release of 2005 LP ''73 Touches'', the "Hip Hop?" single (featuring The Procussions) having hooked many listeners who were curious about its blend of French, English, and Acoustic music, acoustic/Electronic music, electronic elements. Though quite far removed from legendary bands evolving in that same category (like The Roots), Hocus Pocus' more radio-friendly recipe happened to be very effective. Kohndo (also known as ''Doc Odnok'', full name ''Kohndo Assogba'') is a French rapper and producer born on June 17, 1975, in Saint-Cloud, a suburb of Paris. Kohndo is known as one of the best lyricist in french rap. He gained recognition as a rapper during the 1990s as a part of the influential rap group, La Cliqua. C2C (also known as Coups2Cross) is a French musical group formed in 1998 in the city of Nantes. The collaboration group consists of four French DJs: Atom and pFeL from Beat Torrent and 20Syl and Greem from Hocus Pocus. Each member of the group uses his turntable as an instrument, recreating in turn drums, bass guitars, scratching a guitar riff, or simulating a brass instrument. They met during their high school years and as teens they were fascinated by the work of DJ Qbert and DJ Shadow, innovators in the art of turntablism. In the modern music industry, a mixtape is a musical project, typically with looser constraints than that of an album or extended play. Unlike the traditional album or extended play, mixtapes are labeled as laid-back projects that allow artists more creative freedom and less commercial pressure. Scred Connexion is a French rap collective launched in the 1990s composed by Fabe, Koma, Haroun, Mokless and Morad, with the assistance of Butch. Fabe decided to quit his rapping career in 2000 and quit the collective after releasing one additional solo album. "Scred" originates from a track by collective member Koma in his first maxi ''Époque de fous'' and is verlan for ''discret'' (meaning discreet). Fabrice "Fabe" (born in 1971, Paris, France) is a French rapper from Barbès, a district of Paris. He is one of the founders of Scred Connexion, an underground French rap group. He started rapping around 1991 releasing his first work as early as 1995. He is mostly known for his thought-provoking and clever use of lyrics. During the French Riots, he was cited in a petition against seven rap musicians and bands, who were alleged to have incited racism and the riots themselves. Slum Village
Slum Village is an American hip hop group from Detroit, Michigan. The group was formerly composed of the rappers Baatin (1974–2009), T3, and rapper / producer J Dilla (1974–2006). J Dilla left in 2001 to pursue a solo career with MCA Records. Elzhi joined in his absence, after which Baatin also left due to health complications. Following J Dilla's death in 2006 and Baatin's death in 2009, T3 remains the sole surviving member of the original lineup.
