2025–26 WHL Season
The 2025–26 WHL season will be the 60th season of the Western Hockey League (WHL). The regular season will begin on Friday, September 19, 2025. The Penticton Vees will join as the league's newest franchise, its 23rd, and be placed in the B.C. division of the Western Conference. The team who wins the championship will win the Ed Chynoweth Cup and will represent the WHL at the 2026 Memorial Cup, which will be hosted by the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League. The tournament will be held at Prospera Place in Kelowna, British Columbia. Western Hockey League
The Western Hockey League (WHL) is a junior ice hockey league based in Western Canada and the Northwestern United States. The WHL is one of three leagues that constitutes the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) as the highest level of junior hockey in Canada, alongside the Ontario Hockey League and Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League. Teams play for the Ed Chynoweth Cup, with the winner moving on to play for the Memorial Cup, Canada's national junior championship. WHL teams have won the Memorial Cup 19 times. The WHL is composed of 23 teams divided into two conferences of two divisions, each. Prospera Place
Prospera Place, formerly known as Skyreach Place, is a 6,886-seat multi-purpose arena, in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. It replaced Kelowna Memorial Arena, which is still in use for minor hockey. Opened in 1999, it is home to the Kelowna Rockets hockey club. The arena hosted the Memorial Cup in 2004. It was supposed to host it again in 2020, but the tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Prospera Place was selected to host the 2021 Tim Hortons Brier, the Canadian men's national curling championship, but due to COVID-19 restrictions the Brier took place in Calgary instead. Kelowna Rockets
The Kelowna Rockets are a Canadian major junior ice hockey team based in Kelowna, British Columbia. The team plays in the B.C Division of the Western Hockey League's Western Conference, playing their home games at Prospera Place. The Rockets are the most successful WHL team in the twenty-first century, winning three regular season titles and four playoff championships. The team has also played in the Memorial Cup finals three times, winning once, in 2004, when Kelowna hosted the tournament. Franchise history Foundations The club was established in 1991 as the Tacoma Rockets, playing in Tacoma, Washington. 2026 Memorial Cup
The 2026 Memorial Cup is a four-team round-robin format ice hockey tournament to be held at Prospera Place, home of the host Western Hockey League's Kelowna Rockets. It is the 106th Memorial Cup championship which determines the champion of the Canadian Hockey League (CHL). Five teams declared their intent to bid via news releases on their team websites: the Brandon Wheat Kings, Kelowna Rockets, Lethbridge Hurricanes, Medicine Hat Tigers, Spokane Chiefs. Lethbridge and Medicine Hat have never hosted the tournament, while Brandon has hosted once in 2010 and Spokane has hosted once in 1998. Ed Chynoweth Cup
The Ed Chynoweth Cup is an ice hockey club championship trophy awarded to the playoff champion of the Western Hockey League (WHL). Originally called the President's Cup when the league was founded in 1966, the trophy was renamed in 2007 to honour Ed Chynoweth's long service to junior ice hockey in Canada. The WHL champion earns a berth into the Memorial Cup tournament, Canada's major junior hockey championship. The Kamloops Blazers and Medicine Hat Tigers have won the most WHL championships, with six each. The Spokane Chiefs were the first team to win the renamed trophy in the 2007–08 WHL season. Penticton Vees
The Penticton Vees are a junior "A" ice hockey team from Penticton, British Columbia, Canada. They are a part of the British Columbia Hockey League. The junior Vees were founded in 1961, sharing the name of the senior hockey team, the Penticton Vees, and since resuming full league play after Covid-19, have repeated as BCHL League Champions in 2021–22 and 2022–23. Memorial Cup
The Memorial Cup () is the national championship of the Canadian Hockey League (CHL), a consortium of three Junior ice hockey, major junior ice hockey leagues operating in Canada and parts of the United States.
