2025 Curaçao General Election
General elections were held in Curaçao on 21 March 2025 to elect the 21 members of the Parliament of Curaçao. The governing party Movement for the Future of Curaçao (MFK) came in the lead and won an absolute majority with 13 seats, a first in the island's history. Background The 2021 general elections led to a change in government. The outgoing coalition suffered a major defeat, with the Real Alternative Party (PAR) and the New Antilles Movement (MAN) losing many of their seats, while the National Innovation Party (PIN) lost all representation in parliament. From the opposition, the pro-independence party Movement for the Future of Curaçao (MFK) was the first place finisher, winning almost half of the seats. MFK leader Gilmar Pisas was therefore appointed Formateur by Governor Lucille George-Wout. Parliament Of Curaçao
The Parliament of Curaçao () on the island of Curaçao, in the Dutch Caribbean region, consists of 21 members, each elected for a four-year term in a general election. The first Parliament was installed on 10 October 2010, following the dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles, and consisted of the members of the island council elected on 27 August 2010. The first Speaker of the Parliament was Ivar Asjes ( Pueblo Soberano), while Amerigo Thodé ( Movementu Futuro Korsou) was the Deputy Speaker. The party was founded in October 2020 as a splinter from various parties, running candidates who were formerly from the National People's Party, Partido Inovashon Nashonal, Workers' Liberation Front, and People's Crusade Labour Party, by former police officer and member of the Parliament of Curaçao, Rennox Calmes. History In 2019, during Rennox Calmes' tenure as a member of Parliament, demands were made by fellow Parliament member Miro Amparo dos Santos to investigate Calmes' political activities. The demands were made after Calmes was sent to visit The Netherlands for a working visit on behalf of the Parliament of Curaçao, but instead traveled to London. Partido MAN is a political party in Curaçao founded in 1971, which has two of the 21 seats of the Estates of Curaçao after the Curaçao general election of 2021. In the elections preceding the dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles the party gained two seats as well and joined the coalition government. Name MAN originally stood for ''Movementu Antia Nobo'' ( English: New Antilles Movement), but a party congress in 2005 decided to drop that meaning and let MAN be the name of the party in itself.
