2024–25 Singapore Premier League
The 2024–25 Singapore Premier League (also known as the AIA Singapore Premier League due to sponsorship reasons) is the 7th season of the Singapore Premier League, the top-flight Singaporean professional league for association football clubs, since its rebranding in 2018. Format The following key changes were made to the rules for the 2024–25 season: # Each club squad must consist of a minimum 18 professional players and a maximum of 25 players. # Clubs must field a minimum of five local players, which is in line with the quota set by the AFC for its club competitions with the exception of Young Lions. # The requirement for local clubs to field a minimum of one Under-23 player of Singaporean nationality during the entire first half of a match has been lifted. # The mandatory fitness tests for SPL players will transition to a more data-driven approach, facilitated through technical GPS tracking. # Quadruple round-robin format where each club will play each other four times in ... Singapore Premier League
The Singapore Premier League, commonly abbreviated as SPL, officially known as the AIA Singapore Premier League for sponsorship reasons, is a men's professional football league sanctioned by the Football Association of Singapore (FAS), which represents the sport's highest level in the Singapore football league system. The competition was founded as the S. League on 14 April 1996 after the FAS announced its intention to promote and expand the growing local football community by having a top level domestic league. As of 2022, the league comprises eight clubs, consisting of three rounds in which each team plays every other team once. Seasons run from late March to October, with teams playing 21 matches each, totalling 147 matches in the season. Successful SPL clubs gain qualification into Asian continental club competitions, including the AFC Champions League and the AFC Cup. SPL currently does not practice promotion and relegation. Albirex Niigata Singapore FC, abbreviated as Albirex Niigata (S), is a Singaporean football club that plays in the Singapore Premier League. The club is a satellite team of Albirex Niigata of Japan. History Albirex Niigata Singapore, a satellite team of Japanese club Albirex Niigata, joined the S. League in 2004. It was in that year the Football Association of Singapore decided to invite foreign teams in the league in a bid to deal with poor attendance issues. is a Japanese football manager, currently the Assistant Coach at Singapore Premier League side Albirex Niigata Singapore. Career Shigetomi was appointed manager of Albirex Niigata Singapore for the 2019 season, following spells as a coach with Oshu Soccer Club and the Sanfrecce Hiroshima Soccer School. Jurong East Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Jurong East, Singapore. It is opened from 7am to 7.30pm.
