2024–25 Scarlets Season
The 2024–25 season was the 22nd season in the history of the Scarlets, a Welsh regional rugby union side based in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire. In this season, they competed in the United Rugby Championship, its URC Welsh Shield competition and the European Rugby Challenge Cup. After finishing eighth in the United Rugby Championship, they were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the play-offs, losing 33–21 at Leinster Rugby, Leinster. They finished third in their Challenge Cup pool, but were eliminated in the round of 16 after losing 36–14 to their West Wales rivals, the Ospreys (rugby union), Ospreys. Dwayne Peel
Dwayne John Peel (born 31 August 1981) is a Welsh rugby union coach and former player. He was the most capped scrum-half for the Wales national rugby union team with 76 caps, until his record was surpassed by Mike Phillips on 16 March 2013. Youth and early career Peel was born in Carmarthen, Wales. He started his rugby career playing for Tumble RFC at Under-8s level. He attended Ysgol Gyfun Maes-yr-Yrfa in Cefneithin, and is a fluent Welsh speaker. He made his professional club debut for Llanelli RFC before joining the Llanelli Scarlets region at its creation in 2003. Ben Williams (rugby Union, Born 2002)
Ben Williams (born 23 April 2002) is a Welsh rugby union player who plays for the Scarlets as a number 8 or flanker. He is a Wales under-20 international. Professional career Williams started playing for Gilfach Goch RFC as a youth player. Williams was not initially part of any regional academy, but earned a development contract with Aberavon RFC. In 2022, he joined the Ospreys academy, but joined the Scarlets academy in 2022. Williams also plays for Llanelli RFC, and has captained the side in the Indigo Premiership. In 2022, Williams was selected for Wales U20 for the 2022 U20 Six Nations Summer Series, making three appearances. Johnny Williams (rugby Union, Born 1996)
Johnny Williams (born 18 October 1996) is a professional rugby union player who plays as a centre for the Scarlets in the United Rugby Championship and the Wales national team. Career Williams made his debut for London Irish at the age of 18, and signed for Newcastle Falcons in May 2018 following Irish's relegation. In 2019 Williams revealed he had been diagnosed with testicular cancer, and would take time away from the game to undergo treatment. He returned to professional rugby in January 2020. On 14 July 2020, Williams signed for Pro14 side Scarlets ahead of the 2020–21 season. Gareth Davies (rugby Union, Born 1990)
David Gareth Davies (born 18 August 1990) is a Welsh professional rugby union player who plays as a scrum-half for United Rugby Championship club Scarlets and has represented the Wales national team. Club career Davies went to Ysgol Gyfun Dyffryn Teifi in Llandysul before studying Sports Development and Coaching at Coleg Sir Gar in Llanelli. He has been with the Scarlets since he joined the academy in 2006. He has over 100 appearances for the Scarlets scoring over 100 points. Taine Plumtree
Taine Plumtree (born 9 March 2000) is a Welsh professional rugby union player who plays as a flanker for the Scarlets in the United Rugby Championship. Plumtree began his career with Wellington in the NPC, and played for the Blues in Super Rugby. Plumtree has represented Wales, making his debut on 5 August 2023. Club career Wellington and Blues Plumtree was a member of the 2020 Mitre 10 Cup squad. He was named in the Blues squad for the 2021 Super Rugby Aotearoa season, making his debut during the season. Cardiff Rugby
Cardiff Rugby () are one of the four professional Welsh rugby union teams. Based in Cardiff, the team play at Cardiff Arms Park. Originally formed in 1876, from 2003 to 2021 the first team was known as the Cardiff Blues before rebranding back to Cardiff Rugby prior to the start of the 2021–22 season. Macs Page (born 17 December 2004) is a Welsh rugby union player who plays at centre for United Rugby Championship side Scarlets and the Wales national under-20 rugby union team. Early life From Pembrokeshire, he attended Ysgol y Preseli and played at youth level with Fishguard RFC minis and Crymych RFC’s Juniors and Youth teams. Charlie Titcombe
Charlie Titcombe (born 28 December 2001) is an English rugby union player who plays as a Flyhalf for Welsh United Rugby Championship side Scarlets. Club career Youth Titcombe played in the Leicester Tigers academy being released at 18, moving to Loughborough University playing in the BUCS Super Rugby, winning the league in 2022–23. Sam Costelow
Sam Costelow (born 10 January 2001) is a Welsh professional rugby union player who plays as a fly-half for United Rugby Championship club Scarlets and the Wales national team. Early life Born in Llantrisant and raised in Pencoed, Costelow spent time with the Ospreys youth teams before moving on to Leicester Tigers in 2018. Sam O'Connor (rugby Union)
Sam O'Connor (born 11 December 2001) is a Welsh rugby union player who plays as a loosehead prop for the Scarlets. Professional career O'Connor was part of the Bath academy, before joining the Welsh Exile programme. He moved to Wales to study at Llandovery College, while also signing a Scarlets academy contract. In May 2022, O'Connor traveled to New Zealand to play for Linwood RFC in the northern off-season, along with fellow academy player Eddie James. Penalty Try
A try is a way of scoring points in rugby union and rugby league football. A try is scored by grounding the ball in the opposition's in-goal area (on or behind the goal line). Rugby union and league differ slightly in defining "grounding the ball" and the "in-goal" area. In rugby union a try is worth 5 points, and in rugby league a try is worth 4 points. The term "try" comes from "try at goal", signifying that grounding the ball originally only gave the attacking team the opportunity to try to score with a kick at goal. A try is analogous to a touchdown in American and Canadian football, with the major difference being that a try requires the ball be simultaneously touching the ground and an attacking player, whereas a touchdown merely requires that the ball enter the airspace above the "end zone" while in the possession of an opposing player.
