2024–25 OHL Season
The 2024–25 OHL season was the 45th season of operation (44th season of play) of the Ontario Hockey League. The league played a 68-game regular season which began on September 25, 2024 and concluded on March 23, 2025. The post-season began on March 27, 2025 and concluded on May 15, 2025. The London Knights won the J. Ross Robertson Cup and will represent the Ontario Hockey League at the 2025 Memorial Cup, which will be hosted by the Rimouski Océanic of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League. The tournament will be held at Colisée Financière Sun Life in Rimouski, Quebec. Off-season Commissioner On June 12, 2024, the OHL appointed Bryan Crawford as Incoming Commissioner of the league. He began his tenure on August 6, 2024. Crawford took over for David Branch, who held the position since 1979. Ontario Hockey League
The Ontario Hockey League (OHL; ) is one of the three major junior ice hockey leagues which constitute the Canadian Hockey League, alongside the Western Hockey League and the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League. The league is for players aged 16–20. There are currently 20 teams in the OHL: seventeen in Ontario, two in Michigan, and one in Pennsylvania. The league was founded in 1980 when its predecessor, the Ontario Major Junior Hockey League, formally split away from the Ontario Hockey Association, joining the Canadian Major Junior Hockey League and its direct affiliation with Hockey Canada. Rimouski Océanic
The Rimouski Océanic are a Canadian junior ice hockey team in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). The franchise was granted for the 1969–70 season as the Sherbrooke Castors. The Castors played in Sherbrooke from 1969 to 1982 before moving to Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, in 1982 to become the Saint-Jean Castors. In 1989, the team was renamed the Saint-Jean Lynx. In 1995, the team then moved to Rimouski, Quebec, to become the Rimouski Océanic. History The team won the QMJHL championship in the 1999–2000 season and went on to win the Memorial Cup that year, with a team featuring future NHL star Brad Richards. Sidney Crosby joined the team during the 2003–04 QMJHL season. Crosby's 135 points for the club set a new record for a 16-year-old in the QMJHL and was second only to Wayne Gretzky in that particular age-group for all Canadian hockey. North Bay Battalion
The North Bay Battalion are a junior ice hockey team in the Ontario Hockey League based in North Bay, Ontario, Canada. The franchise was founded as the Brampton Battalion on December 3, 1996, and began play in 1998. The team relocated to North Bay prior to the 2013–14 OHL season. History Early years, 1998–2013 The Brampton Battalion's inaugural season began in 1998–99, choosing the Battalion name from community suggestions, and was also adopted by the competitive minor hockey program in Brampton. The team struggled in its first season, winning only 8 of 68 games. However, it would be one of only two seasons (the other being 2001–02) in which the Brampton Battalion would miss the playoffs. North Bay, Ontario
North Bay is a city in Northeastern Ontario, Canada. It is the seat of Nipissing District and takes its name from its position on the shore of Lake Nipissing. It developed as a railroad centre and its airport was an important military location during the Cold War. History The site of North Bay is part of a historic canoe route where Samuel de Champlain took a party up the Ottawa River, through present-day Mattawa, on to Trout Lake and via the La Vase Creek to Lake Nipissing. Brampton Battalion
The Brampton Battalion were a junior ice hockey team in the Ontario Hockey League. The team was based in Brampton, Ontario, Canada and started playing in 1998. As a result of consistently having among the lowest attendance in the OHL (last place in the OHL for its final four seasons), the team was relocated to North Bay, Ontario for the 2013–14 OHL season. History The Brampton Battalion was granted an expansion franchise on December 3, 1996. Major Junior A hockey returned to Brampton for the first time since 1963, when the Brampton 7Ups played in the Metro Junior A League before returning to the Junior B level. CAA Centre
The CAA Centre (formerly the Brampton Centre for Sports & Entertainment and the Powerade Centre) is a 5,000-seat multi-purpose arena in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. It was built in 1998, and officially opened the same year on October 7. In 2023, the arena became home to the Brampton Honey Badgers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League. In April 2023, it hosted the 2023 IIHF Women's World Championship. It is also home to the new tenants, the Brampton Steelheads of the Ontario Hockey League as of May 2024. It was previously home to the Brampton Battalion of the Ontario Hockey League, the Brampton Beast of the ECHL, and the Brampton Excelsiors lacrosse teams. The Brampton Steelheads are a Canadian junior ice hockey team in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), based in Brampton, Ontario. The Steelheads play their home games at the CAA Centre in Brampton. The team relocated from nearby Mississauga in 2024. As the Mississauga Steelheads, the team previously won the Emms Trophy as regular season champions of the Central division and the Bobby Orr Trophy as playoffs champions of the Eastern conference during the 2016–17 OHL season. History The OHL originated in Mississauga with the Mississauga IceDogs. The IceDogs played in Mississauga from 1998 to 2007 before being purchased by Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk in 2006. David Branch (ice Hockey)
David Branch (born November 27, 1948) is a Canadian ice hockey administrator. His lengthy involvement in junior ice hockey includes serving as commissioner of the Ontario Hockey League from 1979 to 2024, and as president of the Canadian Hockey League from 1996 to 2019. He received the Order of Hockey in Canada in 2016, and the David Branch Player of the Year Award was renamed in his honour in 2019. Early life David Branch was born on November 27, 1948, in Bathurst, New Brunswick. He played National Collegiate Athletic Association, NCAA hockey while attending the University of Massachusetts Amherst on a scholarship. Bryan Crawford
Bryan Crawford (born February 18, 1982) is a Canadian sports executive & former Canadian football running back who played his entire pro career, 112 games with the Toronto Argonauts. On August 6, 2024, Crawford became the commissioner of the Ontario Hockey League, replacing David Branch. Early years Bryan is the son of Glenn and Elaine Crawford. His younger brother Brad is his teammate on the Argonauts. while his sister Lauren is a freshman defender on the University of Buffalo women's soccer team.
