2024–25 New York Islanders Season
The 2024–25 New York Islanders season was the 53rd season in the franchise's history. It was their fourth season in UBS Arena. It was their first full season under head coach Patrick Roy, who was the interim head coach for the 2023–24 season after the firing of Lane Lambert on January 20, 2024. On April 12, 2025, the Islanders were eliminated from playoff contention for the first time since the 2021–22 season following their shootout loss to the Philadelphia Flyers. Metropolitan Division
The National Hockey League's Metropolitan Division (often referred to simply as the "Metro Division") was formed in 2013 as one of the two divisions in the Eastern Conference (NHL), Eastern Conference as part of a league realignment. It is also a successor of the original Atlantic Division (NHL, 1993–2013), Atlantic Division and one of the two successors to the Southeast Division (NHL), Southeast Division. Six of its teams were previously together in the Patrick Division from 1981 to 1993 (one joined in 1982). The New York Islanders are a professional ice hockey team based in Elmont, New York. They compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) Eastern Conference's Metropolitan Division. Since their inaugural season in 1972, the team has played home games at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum (1972–2015, 2018–2021), Barclays Center (2015–2020) and currently play at UBS Arena (since 2021). Semyon Aleksandrovich Varlamov ( rus, links=y, Семён Александрович Варламов, , sʲɪˈmʲɵn vɐrˈlaməf; born 27 April 1988) is a Russian professional ice hockey goaltender for the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League (NHL). He first played professionally with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl of the then Russian Superleague (RSL) after he was drafted in the first round, 23rd overall, by the Washington Capitals in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. A coxless four, abbreviated as a 4- and also called a straight four, is a racing shell used in the sport of competitive rowing. It is designed for four persons who propel the boat with sweep oars, without a coxswain. The crew consists of four rowers, each having one oar. There are two rowers on the stroke side (rower's right hand side) and two on the bow side (rower's lefthand side). As there is no coxswain, the rudder is controlled by one of the crew, normally with the rudder cable attached to the toe of one of their shoes which can pivot about the ball of the foot, moving the cable left or right. Prudential Center is a multipurpose indoor arena in the central business district of Newark, New Jersey, United States. Marcus Högberg (born 25 November 1994) is a Swedish professional ice hockey goaltender for the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League (NHL). Högberg was selected by the Ottawa Senators in the third round (78th overall) of the 2013 NHL entry draft. Playing career Högberg made his Swedish Hockey League debut playing with Linköping HC during the 2012–13 season. The 2024–25 Philadelphia Flyers season was the 58th season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on June 5, 1967. On April 5, the Flyers were eliminated from playoff contention after a 3–2 loss to the Montreal Canadiens, missing the playoffs for the fifth consecutive season, tying the longest playoff drought in franchise history when they missed the playoffs for five consecutive seasons from 1990 to 1994.
