2024–25 Melbourne City FC (women) Season
The 2024–25 season is Melbourne City Football Club's tenth season in the A-League Women. They are also participating in the AFC Women's Champions League for the first time. Before the beginning of the season, head coach Dario Vidošić left the club, having been appointed as coach of English Women's Super League club Brighton & Hove Albion. Review Background The 2023–24 season saw Melbourne City win their fourth Premiership hence securing qualification for the 2024–25 AFC Women's Champions League and lost the Grand Final for the first time in their history going down 1–0 to Sydney FC. Pre-season On 13 June, Melbourne City confirmed that their top goalscorer and New Zealand attacker Hannah Wilkinson would depart following the conclusion of her contract. Melbourne City Women's Football Club, also known as the Melbourne City Women or simply as City, represents Melbourne City in the A-League Women, the top division soccer league in Australia. The 2023–24 season was the ninth in the history of Melbourne City FC (women). They were managed by Dario Vidošić. Review Background The 2022–23 season saw a perfect start in three matches into the top of the table towards Round 8; the last time they would finish a round in 1st place. Fellow undefeated matches kept City in second place during the time, until further losses to toppers Sydney FC and Western United brought City down to third place, and winning only one of their last five regular season matches to finish 3rd and lose the elimination-final to Melbourne Victory 4–1 on penalties after a 3–3 draw. Bárbara (footballer)
Bárbara Micheline do Monte Barbosa (born 4 July 1988), commonly known as Bárbara, is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Internacional and the Brazil women's national team. She has played for clubs in Italy, Sweden and Germany, as well as in her native country, Brazil. Since making her national team debut in 2007, she has won over 30 caps for Brazil. Emina Ekic
Emina Ekić (born 6 June 1999) is a Bosnian-American professional women's footballer who plays as a midfielder for Spokane Zephyr FC of the USL Super League, and for the Bosnia and Herzegovina women's national football team. Early life Ekić was born in Louisville, Kentucky to parents who were both born in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Ekić attended DuPont Manual High School, where she was named the 2015–16 Kentucky Gatorade Player of the Year. Ekić also played for Javanon SC. Julia Grosso (American Soccer)
Julia Grosso (born December 10, 1998) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a defender for National Women's Soccer League club Utah Royals. She previously played for A-League Women club Melbourne City, for whom she was named the 2022–23 Player of the Year. Early life Grosso was born in Sunrise, Florida and played for Sunrise SC and St. Thomas Aquinas High School, with whom she won the 4A girls state championship in 2015 and 2017. College career After appearing in every game in her first season with Kentucky in an attacking role, Grosso moved to a defensive role as a sophomore. Naomi Kai Thomas-Chinnama (born 13 May 2004) is an Australian soccer player who plays as a defender for Perth Glory in the A-League Women. She has previously played for Melbourne City. Taylor Marie Otto (born October 23, 1999) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a midfielder for A-League Women club Melbourne City. 2024 A-League Women Grand Final
The 2024 A-League Women grand final, known officially as the Liberty A-League Women grand final, was a championship soccer match between Melbourne City and Sydney FC at AAMI Park in Melbourne on 4 May 2024. It was the 15th A-League Women grand final and the culmination of the 2023–24 season. Melbourne City came into the match as premiers. The match was refereed by Casey Reibelt. Sydney FC won the match 1–0 and received its second-consecutive championship, the tenth league title in the club's history. Mackenzie Hawkesby was named man of the match. As winners, Sydney FC became the first A-League Women club to win five championships.
