2024–25 Iraq Stars League
The 2024–25 Iraq Stars League is the 51st season of the highest tier football league in Iraq since its establishment in 1974, and the second season since launching as a professional league under the name Iraq Stars League. The season started on 20 September 2024 and will end on 4 July 2025. Overview 20 teams are competing in the 2024–25 Iraq Stars League: 18 teams from the previous season, as well as Diyala and Al-Karma who were promoted from the 2023–24 Iraqi Premier Division League, replacing Amanat Baghdad and Naft Al-Wasat who were relegated. Diyala are returning to the top-flight after a 13-year absence, while Al-Karma are playing in the top-flight for the first time in history this season. Iraq Stars League
The Iraq Stars League (), is the highest level of the Iraqi football league system. Contested by 20 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Iraqi Premier Division League. It is governed by the Iraqi Pro League Association. The league was formed by the Iraq Football Association in 1974 as the Iraqi National Clubs League, the first nationwide league of clubs in Iraq, and later became known as the Iraqi Premier League. In 2023, the competition was rebranded as the Iraq Stars League and transitioned into a fully professional competition. The current format sees 20 teams playing 38 matches each (playing each team in the league twice, home and away), totalling 380 matches in the season. Of the 80 teams to have competed since the inception of the league in 1974, eleven have won the title. Al-Qasim SC
Al-Qasim Sport Club () is an Iraqi football club based in Al-Qasim City, Babil, that competes in the Iraq Stars League. History Al-Qasim Club was founded in 1973 by a group of young athletes. The team have been in the Iraqi First Division League for many years and have not been able to qualify for the Premier League due to lack of financial support and lack of a good stadium. In the 2015–16 season, the team strengthened their ranks with good players and was about to qualify for the Premier League, but finished second behind Al-Bahri in Elite Stage, and Al-Bahri qualified. As well as in the 2017–18 season, but they finished second behind Erbil in Final stage, and Erbil qualified. Al-Minaa SC
Al-Mina'a Sports Club () is an Iraqi multi-sport club based in Al Maqal, Al-Maqal, Basra that participates in the Iraq Stars League, the top tier of Football in Iraq, Iraqi football. It is one of the most popular clubs in Iraq, particularly in the south, and became the first club outside Baghdad to win the Iraqi Premier League. Al-Mina'a was founded on November 22, 1931, in Al-Maqal. In 1974–75 Iraqi National League, 1974, the club was merged with another team called Al-Etisalat SC, Al-Bareed to form a single club called Al-Muwasalat SC, Al-Muwasalat, and it was a strange situation because the Al-Bareed team were based in Baghdad while Al-Mina'a were based in Basra and the two teams met in Baghdad on the day of the match only, so after just one season the club was dissolved and Al-Mina'a returned in their place. Al-Zawraa SC
Al-Zawra'a Sports Club () is an Iraqi professional sports club based in Utayfia, Karkh District (near Tigris River), Baghdad. Their football team competes in the Iraq Stars League, the top-flight of Iraqi football. Al-Zawra'a have won the most major honours of any club in Iraq, having won 14 league titles, 16 Iraq FA Cups and 5 Iraqi Super Cups—all record totals. Al-Zawra'a also won the Baghdad Championship a joint-record three times. Al-Zawra'a have won the domestic double a record eight times and became only the second Iraqi team to win the domestic quadruple in the 1999–2000 season. Al-Talaba SC
Al-Talaba Sports Club () is an Iraqi professional sports club based in Al-Rusafa, Baghdad. Its football team competes in the Iraq Stars League, the top flight of Iraqi football. Founded in 1969, the club was named Al-Jamiea but became known as Al-Talaba ahead of the 1978–79 season after being merged with a new club of the same name. Their home stadium is Al-Talaba Stadium. Al-Talaba are one of Iraq's most successful teams having won five league titles, most recently in the 2001–02 season. Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya
Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya () is an Iraqi sports club based in Al-Rusafa, Iraq, Rusafa District, Baghdad that competes in the Iraq Stars League, the top-flight of Football in Iraq, Iraqi football. Founded in 1931, it is the oldest existing club in Iraq. Al-Naft SC
Al Naft Sports Club () is an Iraqi professional sports club based in the Adhamiyah District, East Districts of the Tigris River, Baghdad. Their football team plays in the highest division in Iraq which is the Iraq Stars League, which they have never been relegated from. History Al-Naft Sports Club was established in 1979 by the Ministry of Oil, and was officially registered in the Ministry of Youth and Sports in 1982. Al-Karkh SC
Al-Karkh Sports Club () is an Iraqi sports club based in Karkh, Baghdad. Its professional football team plays in the Iraq Stars League, the top tier of the Iraqi football. The club's home stadium is Al-Saher Ahmed Radhi Stadium. Founded in 1963, Al-Karkh was not successful in reaching the top flight of Iraqi football until Al-Rasheed SC's properties and place in the top division were transferred to Al-Karkh when Al-Rasheed were dissolved in 1990. Al-Kahraba'a Sports Club () is an Iraqi professional sports club based in Rusafa District, Baghdad, and is known for its football team that competes in the Iraq Stars League. Duhok SC
Duhok Sports Club (, ) is an Iraqi professional sports club, based in Duhok, Kurdistan Region, Iraq. Founded in 1970, the club competes in the Iraq Stars League. Zakho Sport Club, () also spelled as Zaxo Sport Club (, ''Yana Zaxo ya Werzişî''), is an Iraqi professional sports club based in Zakho, Kurdistan Region, Iraq. History Football in Zakho was played unofficially from the early 1920s with many local amateur games as well as school competitions regularly being held in Zakho or nearby districts.
