2024–25 Championnat National 2
The 2024–25 Championnat National 2 is the 27th season of the fourth tier in the French football league system in its current format. This season the competition is contested by 48 clubs split geographically across three groups of 16 teams. A total of 11 clubs were promoted from Championnat National 3 and four were relegated from Championnat National, the tier above. The previous season had 56 clubs in four groups with five relegated clubs each; the reduction in teams is part of a restructuring of the French football league system between 2022 and 2026. The teams include amateur clubs (although a few are semi-professional) and the reserve teams of professional clubs. On 1 August 2024, FC Girondins de Bordeaux was relegated from Ligue 2 directly to Championnat National 2 due to being placed in financial administration. Championnat National 2
The Championnat National 2, commonly known as National 2 and formerly known as Championnat de France Amateur (CFA), is a Association football, football league competition. The league serves as the fourth tier of French football league system behind Ligue 1, Ligue 2 and Championnat National. Contested by 48 clubs, the Championnat National 2 operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Championnat National and Championnat National 3, the fifth division of French football. Seasons run from August to May, with teams in the three groups playing 30 games each. Most games are played on Saturdays and Sundays, with a few games played during weekday evenings. Play is regularly suspended the last weekend before Christmas for two weeks before returning in the second week of January. Ligue 2 (, League 2), also known as Ligue 2 BKT due to sponsorship reasons, is a French professional football league. The league serves as the second division of French football and is one of two divisions making up the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP), the other being Ligue 1, the country's top football division. Contested by 18 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with both Ligue 1 and the third division Championnat National. Seasons run from August to May, with teams playing 34 games each, totalling 306 games in the season. Most games are played on Fridays and Mondays, with a few games played during weekday and weekend evenings. FC Istres
Istres Football Club (; commonly referred to as simply Istres) is a French association football club based in Istres. The club was formed in 1920 and currently play their home matches at the Stade Parsemain in Fos-sur-Mer, a commune in the Arrondissement of Istres. History FC Istres was founded in 1920 by Édouard Guizonnier as SS Istréenne. In 1969, SS Istréenne was merged into the more general sports club Istres Sports, who chose to keep Istréenne's distinctive purple and black colours. The club was founded in 1912 and played the first ever season of professional football in France in 1932–1933 but were relegated.
