2024–25 Azerbaijan First Division
The 2024–25 Azerbaijan First Division was the second-level of football in Azerbaijan. In the 20th round of the First League on 7 April 2025, Gabala won 5–0 against Baku Sporting, securing promotion to the Premier League with 7 matchdays (35 games) remaining before the end of the tournament. Teams A total of 10 teams would compete, with the winners promoted to Azerbaijan Premier League and the team whom finished last relegated to the Azerbaijan Second League. The Azerbaijan First League () is the second highest professional division in Azerbaijani professional football. The league is run by AFFA. The winner promotes to Premier Division. History Due to the dissolution of the Soviet Union, all Azerbaijan clubs of the former Soviet Premier Division and Soviet First Division conformed a single Azerbaijan Premier League, which meant that the new second tier of Azerbaijan football would remain regionalized. For the first two seasons three regional groups conformed the second tier, until in 1994 the single table in use today began to be used. Agsu () is a city in and capital of the Agsu District of Azerbaijan. History Abbasgulu Bakikhanov noted that Nadir Shah issued an order for resettlement of the inhabitants of Shamakhi to the newly laid down city on the bank of Agsu river, in 1735. At present, the name of Agsu city (which is the centre of Agsu district) is shown as New Shamakhi in some sources. It is related with resettlement of the inhabitants of Shamakhi to Agsu city. Imishli (city)
Imishli () is a city and the capital of the Imishli District of Azerbaijan. History During the Tsardom of Russia, Qaradonlu belonged to the Javad Khan administration. In 1906, the first School of Qaradonlu region was established, with many living-buildings, caravanserais, mills and shops in the area. In August 1930, Qaradonlu was organized in Mil-Mugan as a region. As early as the October Revolution, land-reclamation and irrigation work were made based on the intense irrigated plant-growing. In 1933, Qaradonlu Machine-Tractor Plant was built in the Qaradonlu historical region. As a result of the construction of the railway between Ələt and Yerevan, people moved from the center of the region to suburbs of the railway stations. MOIK Baku is an Azerbaijani football club, based in Baku. MOIK was originally built around the concept of military sports club such as CSKA Moscow, CSKA Sofia. Mingachevir ( ) is the fourth largest city in Azerbaijan with a population of about 106,000. It is often called the "city of lights" because of its hydroelectric power station on the Kura (South Caucasus river), Kura River, which divides the city down the middle. Mingəçevir FK is an Azerbaijani football club based in Mingachevir. One of the oldest and most popular clubs in Azerbaijan, it currently plays in the Azerbaijan First Division.
