2024 $1 Million Challenge
The 2024 $1 Million Challenge was a non-championship round held as part of the 2024 IndyCar Series. The race was held on March 24, 2024 at the Thermal Club private race resort in Thermal, California. The feature race consisted of 20 laps and was won by Álex Palou. It was the seventh American championship open-wheel racing event in Riverside County, the first since the Budweiser 500K, 1983 Budweiser 500K, held in the Edgemont area of Riverside County, about 75 miles northwest of the Coachella Valley where the Thermal Club is located. Entry list Qualifying Qualifying started at 5:00 PM Pacific Time Zone, PT on March 23, 2024. Thermal Club IndyCar Track Map
A thermal column (or thermal) is a rising mass of buoyant air, a convective current in the atmosphere, that transfers heat energy vertically. Thermals are created by the uneven heating of Earth's surface from solar radiation, and are an example of convection, specifically atmospheric convection. Thermals on Earth The Sun warms the ground, which in turn warms the air directly above. The warm air near the surface expands, becoming less density, dense than the surrounding air. The lighter air rises and cools due to its expansion in the lower pressure at higher altitudes. It stops rising when it has cooled to the same temperature, thus density, as the surrounding air. Associated with a thermal is a downward flow surrounding the thermal column. The downward-moving exterior is caused by colder air being displaced at the top of the thermal. Budweiser 500K
The Budweiser 500K was an automobile race sanctioned by Championship Auto Racing Teams, CART, it was held at Riverside International Raceway in Riverside, California. The event was held from 1967 to 1969 and again from 1981 to 1983. Racing History 1967–1969 From 1967 to 1969 Riverside served as the season-ending United States Auto Club, USAC championship race, the 1967 race was the last for Jim Clark in USAC before his death in April 1968. Dale Coyne Racing (DCR) is an American professional open-wheel racing team that currently competes in the IndyCar Series and Indy NXT. The team was founded in 1984 and is owned by former driver Dale Coyne. From 1995 to 2000, the team was known as Payton-Coyne Racing, reflecting a partnership with Chicago Bears great Walter Payton. Nolan Reid Siegel (born November 8, 2004) is an American racing driver. He competes in the IndyCar Series driving the No. 6 Chevrolet for Arrow McLaren. In 2024, Siegel won the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans, 24 Hours of Le Mans in the LMP2 class on his first attempt, with United Autosports. William Steven Power (born 1 March 1981) is an Australian racing driver who competes in the IndyCar Series, driving the No. 12 Dallara-Chevrolet for Team Penske.
