2023–24 Vancouver Canucks Season
The 2023–24 Vancouver Canucks season was the 54th season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on May 22, 1970. On March 30, 2024, the Canucks clinched a playoff spot for the first time since 2020, after the San Jose Sharks defeated the St. Louis Blues. On April 16, 2024, the Canucks clinched the Pacific Division title for the first time in franchise history and their first franchise division title since winning the Northwest Division in 2013; following a 4–1 win over the Calgary Flames in their last regular season home game. In game one of the playoffs in their first round series against the Nashville Predators, the Canucks played their first home playoff game at Rogers Arena since 2015, securing a 4–2 win over Nashville. Pacific Division (NHL)
The National Hockey League's Pacific Division was formed in 1993 as part of the Western Conference in a league realignment. It is also one of the two successors of the Smythe Division (the other one was the Northwest Division), though of the current teams, only the Anaheim Ducks, Seattle Kraken and Vegas Golden Knights did not play in the Smythe Division. Due to subsequent realignments, three of the Pacific Division's original teams (the Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, and Vancouver Canucks) left the division in 1998 but returned in 2013. The division is the only one in the NHL without any Original Six teams. Abbotsford Centre
Abbotsford Centre, formerly Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre, is a 7,000-seat multi-purpose arena in Abbotsford, British Columbia. The arena was expected to cost $64.7 million. Construction began on September 24, 2007. As of 2021, it is the home of the Abbotsford Canucks of the American Hockey League (AHL) after previously hosting AHL's Abbotsford Heat from 2009 to 2014. 2023–24 Seattle Kraken Season
The 2023–24 Seattle Kraken season was the third season for the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise. They played their home games at Climate Pledge Arena. During the season, the Kraken played in the 2024 Winter Classic, winning 3–0 against the Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Park on January 1, 2024, achieving the first shutout in Winter Classic history. On April 3, the Kraken were eliminated from playoff contention after a 5–2 loss to the Los Angeles Kings. Casey DeSmith
Casey DeSmith (born August 13, 1991) is an American professional ice hockey goaltender for the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League (NHL). He holds the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins record for most saves in a playoff game. DeSmith was named to the AHL's 2016–17 All-Rookie Team and was a co-recipient of the 2017 Harry "Hap" Holmes Memorial Award. Undrafted and regarded as undersized for a goaltender, he signed with the Wheeling Nailers, the ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, in 2015 after his college career at the University of New Hampshire was halted due to legal problems. Artūrs Šilovs (born 22 March 2001) is a Latvian professional ice hockey goaltender for the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League (NHL). Šilovs was selected by the Canucks in the sixth round, 156th overall, in the 2019 NHL entry draft and made his NHL debut with the team in 2023. Playing with the Latvian national team, Šilovs played a central role in the country's first-ever medal at Ice Hockey World Championships in 2023. Bowie William Horvat (born April 5, 1995) is a Canadian professional ice hockey Centre (ice hockey), centre and Captain (ice hockey)#Alternate captains, alternate captain for the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League (NHL). 2023–24 Edmonton Oilers Season
The 2023–24 Edmonton Oilers season was the 45th season for the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise that was established on June 22, 1979, and 52nd season for the organization overall, including their play in the World Hockey Association (WHA). During the off-season, the Oilers acquired forward Connor Brown and defenceman Ben Gleason via free agency. They also re-signed forward Mattias Janmark. The team started the season poorly, going before firing head coach Jay Woodcroft and replacing him with Kris Knoblauch. The 2023–24 Nashville Predators season was the 26th season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on June 25, 1997. The Predators made the playoffs for the ninth time in 10 years after having missed the playoffs last season. This was the team's first season without David Poile as general manager, following his retirement on June 30, 2023, although he still currently remains with the organization as a creative consultant. Poile was previously the only general manager in team history and retired as both the longest tenured and winningest general manager in team history. The 2024 Stanley Cup playoffs was the playoff tournament of the National Hockey League (NHL) for the 2023–24 season. The playoffs began on April 20, 2024, and concluded on June 24, 2024, with the Florida Panthers winning their first Stanley Cup in franchise history, defeating the Edmonton Oilers four games to three in the Stanley Cup Finals. The New York Rangers made the playoffs as the Presidents' Trophy winners with the most points (i.e. best record) during the regular season.
