2023–24 Maltese National Amateur League
The 2023–24 Maltese National Amateur League (referred to, for sponsorship reasons, as the IZIBet National Amateur League) occurs between 15 September 2023 and 23 April 2024. This is the fourth season since the Second and Third divisions were unified into the two-group Amateur League system. The Maltese National Amateur League is Malta's third-highest professional football division. The 2023-24 League winners will be promoted to the Maltese Challenge League. Senglea Athletic F
Senglea ( ), also known by its title Città Invicta (or Civitas Invicta), is a fortified city in the Port Region of Malta. It is one of the Three Cities in the Grand Harbour area, the other two being Cospicua and Vittoriosa, and has a population of approximately 2,720 people. The city's title Città Invicta (lit. invincible city) was given because it managed to resist the Ottoman invasion at the Great Siege of Malta in 1565. The name Senglea comes from the Grand Master who built it Claude de la Sengle and gave the city a part of his name. While Senglea is the 52nd most populated locality on the island, due to its incredibly small land area, it is the 2nd most densely populated locality after Sliema. Xgħajra () is a small village in the Port Region of Malta. It is located on the coast, about halfway between Valletta and Marsaskala. Its local football club is known as the Xgħajra Tornadoes F.C. Contrary to popular belief, it has no relation to the Gozitan village Xagħra. Its population stood at 1,732 in March 2014. Qormi (, , ), also known by its title Città Pinto, is a city in the Southern Region of Malta, southwest of Valletta in the centre of the island. It has a population of 16,324 (as of March 2018), making it Malta's fifth-largest city. Qormi has two parishes, one dedicated to Saint George and one to Saint Sebastian. It contains two valleys: Wied ''il-Kbir'' (The Large Valley) and ''Wied is-Sewda'' (Black Valley). Its bordering towns are Marsa, Luqa, Żebbuġ, Siġġiewi, Ħamrun, Birkirkara, Attard, Santa Venera and Balzan. Elder inhabitants of Qormi speak a broad Qormi Dialect, which is now in decline. Mellieħa ( ) is a large village in the Northern Region, Malta, Northern Region of Malta. It has a population of 10,087 as of March 2014. Mellieħa is also a tourist resort, popular for its sandy beaches, natural environment, and Popeye Village nearby. Etymology The name ''Mellieħa'' is derived from the Semitic root ''m-l-ħ'', which means ''salt''. Qrendi () is a village in the Western Region of Malta, with a population of 3,148 people as of October 2021. It is located close to Mqabba, Żurrieq and Siġġiewi. Within its boundaries are the two Neolithic temples of Mnajdra and Ħaġar Qim. Two annual feasts are held in Qrendi: the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes is celebrated either on the last Sunday of June or the first Sunday of July, and the Feast of the Ascension of Our Lady on 15 August. Although the majority of the village's old core buildings remain today, Qrendi has changed considerably in recent times. Marsaskala, sometimes written as Marsascala is a seaside town in the Southern Region of Malta. Originally a fishing village, it has grown into a tourist destination and a permanent hometown for an ever-growing population. The parish church, built in 1953, is dedicated to Saint Anne and Marsaskala's feast is celebrated at the end of July. Name and etymology The name of the town is also written as Marsascala in old ortography, and often abbreviated as M'Skala. It is a composite name derived from Arabic.
