2023–24 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup
The 2023–24 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup, organised by the International Ski Federation (FIS) was the 58th World Cup season in alpine skiing for men and women. The season started on 28 October 2023 in Sölden, Austria, and concluded on 24 March 2024 at the finals in Saalbach, Austria. Marco Odermatt and Mikaela Shiffrin were the reigning overall champions from the last two seasons. Odermatt successfully defended the title, while Shiffrin finished the season in 3rd place. Lara Gut-Behrami won the women’s overall title for the second time in her career. On 25 October, FIS prolonged the suspension of the Russian and Belarusian national team from competitions due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Marco Odermatt
Marco Odermatt (born 8 October 1997) is a Swiss World Cup alpine ski racer who races in giant slalom, super-G and downhill. He is considered the most complete alpine ski racer of his generation. In addition to the World Cup, Odermatt has competed for Switzerland at two Junior World Championships, three World Championships, and the 2022 Winter Olympics. Career At the 2016 Junior World Championships in Sochi, Odermatt won the bronze medal in super-G and the gold medal in giant slalom, which allowed him to make his World Cup debut in March 2016 in the giant slalom at the season finals in St. Moritz. Joan Verdú Fernández (; born 5 May 1983) is a Spanish former professional footballer. A versatile midfielder, adept at both central or attacking midfielder, he started professionally at Barcelona, but played mainly for local rivals Espanyol during his career, amassing La Liga totals of 262 games and 35 goals over nine seasons and also representing in the competition Deportivo, Betis and Levante. Elena Curtoni (born 3 February 1991) is an Italian World Cup alpine ski racer. Her sister Irene Curtoni is also a former World Cup racer. Beaver Creek Resort
Beaver Creek Resort is an alpine ski resort in the western United States, near Avon, Colorado. The resort comprises three villages, the main Beaver Creek Village, Bachelor Gulch, and Arrowhead to the west. The resort is owned and operated by Vail Resorts which operates multiple additional resorts. Beaver Creek is a regular host of World Cup events, usually in early December. History The valley that houses Beaver Creek Resort lies just south of Avon and was first settled in 1881. Many early pioneers moved to the area under President Abraham Lincoln's Homestead Act (1862), farming hay and raising cattle to feed local miners.
