2023–24 Carolina Hurricanes Season
The 2023–24 Carolina Hurricanes season was the 45th season (44th season of play) for the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise that was established in June 1979, and the 26th season since the franchise relocated from the Hartford Whalers to start the 1997–98 season. On March 28, 2024, the Hurricanes clinched a playoff berth for the sixth consecutive season after a 4–0 win against the Detroit Red Wings. On April 9, 2024, the Hurricanes clinched their 3rd consecutive 50-win season. In the playoffs, they defeated the New York Islanders in five games in the first round, and faced the New York Rangers in the second round. However, their season came to an end when they lost in six games despite staving off elimination in the fourth and fifth games. The National Hockey League's Metropolitan Division (often referred to simply as the "Metro Division") was formed in 2013 as one of the two divisions in the Eastern Conference (NHL), Eastern Conference as part of a league realignment. It is also a successor of the original Atlantic Division (NHL, 1993–2013), Atlantic Division and one of the two successors to the Southeast Division (NHL), Southeast Division. Hartford Whalers
The Hartford Whalers were a professional ice hockey team based for most of its 25-year existence in Hartford, Connecticut. The club played in the World Hockey Association (WHA) from 1972 until 1979, and in the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1979 to 1997. Originally based in Boston, they were charter members of the WHA, known as the New England Whalers for all seven seasons. After their second season, the team moved southwest to Hartford in April 1974; five years later, the Whalers joined the NHL in the 1979 NHL–WHA merger and were renamed the "Hartford Whalers" because the Boston Bruins did not want to share a geographical market with the team. The 2023–24 Ottawa Senators season was the 32nd season of the Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Senators failed to return to the Stanley Cup playoffs for the seventh straight season after losing 4–3 to the New Jersey Devils on April 6, 2024 at the 76th game of the season. This was the Senators' first season under the new ownership of Michael Andlauer. Frederik Andersen
Frederik Andersen (born 2 October 1989) is a Danish professional ice hockey goaltender for the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League (NHL). He previously played for the Anaheim Ducks and Toronto Maple Leafs. Representing Denmark men's national ice hockey team, Denmark, Andersen competed in the 2010 IIHF World Championship. He was selected by the Hurricanes in the seventh round, 187th overall, of the 2010 NHL entry draft. Unable to come to terms with the Hurricanes, Andersen later re-entered the draft and was selected in the third round of the 2012 NHL entry draft, 87th overall. Antti Raanta (born 12 May 1989) is a Finnish professional ice hockey goaltender who currently plays for Lukko in the Finnish Liiga. He last played with Genève-Servette Hockey Club, Genève-Servette HC of the National League (ice hockey), National League (NL). The 2023–24 Nashville Predators season was the 26th season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on June 25, 1997. The Predators made the playoffs for the ninth time in 10 years after having missed the playoffs last season. This was the team's first season without David Poile as general manager, following his retirement on June 30, 2023, although he still currently remains with the organization as a creative consultant. Poile was previously the only general manager in team history and retired as both the longest tenured and winningest general manager in team history.
