The 2023–24 Calgary Flames season was their 44th season in Calgary, and the 52nd season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on June 6, 1972. On April 4, 2024, the Flames were eliminated from playoff contention for the second consecutive season after a 5–2 loss to the Winnipeg Jets. Pacific Division (NHL)
The National Hockey League's Pacific Division was formed in 1993 as part of the Western Conference in a league realignment. It is also one of the two successors of the Smythe Division (the other one was the Northwest Division), though of the current teams, only the Anaheim Ducks, Seattle Kraken and Vegas Golden Knights did not play in the Smythe Division. Due to subsequent realignments, three of the Pacific Division's original teams (the Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, and Vancouver Canucks) left the division in 1998 but returned in 2013. The division is the only one in the NHL without any Original Six teams. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting closure of the Canada–United States border, all eight teams were transferred into two different divisions for the 2020–21 NHL season. Martin Pospíšil (ice Hockey)
Martin Pospíšil (born 19 November 1999) is a Slovak professional ice hockey centre for the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League (NHL). His brother Kristián is also an ice-hockey player. Playing career Prior to his professional career, Pospíšil played for the Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL. Amassing 37 points in 49 games, Pospíšil was drafted in the fourth round (105th overall pick) in the 2018 NHL entry draft by the Calgary Flames. He was signed to a three-year, entry-level contract by the Flames on 20 April 2019. On 13 August 2020, the Flames loaned Pospíšil to HC Košice of the Slovak Extraliga. He was later re-signed to one-year, two-way contracts in 2022 and 2023. On 3 November 2023, Pospíšil was called up by the Flames and made his NHL debut the next day, scoring his first career NHL goal in a 6–3 win against the Seattle Kraken. The 2023–24 Washington Capitals season was the 50th season (49th season of play) for the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise that was established on June 11, 1974. The Capitals returned to the playoffs after missing them for the first time since 2013–14 season (and only the second time since 2006–07), ending their eight-season playoff streak, and attempted to win the team's second Stanley Cup and their first since 2018. The Capitals clinched the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference on April 16, 2024, following a 2–1 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers. The 2023–24 Pittsburgh Penguins season was the 57th season (56th season of play) for the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise that was established on June 5, 1967. On June 1, 2023, Kyle Dubas was hired as president of hockey operations and general manager of the Penguins, replacing Brian Burke. The Penguins were attempting to make the playoffs for the 17th time in 18 years after missing the postseason for the first time since 2006, and ending the longest active playoff appearance streak among the four major North American sports leagues at 16 years. The old Pittsburgh Penguins spot for being the longest active playoffs streak was taken by the Los Angeles Dodgers of Major League Baseball (MLB) who made the playoffs for 10 consecutive years. Daniel Vladař
Daniel Vladař (born 20 August 1997) is a Czech professional ice hockey goaltender for the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League (NHL). Selected by the Boston Bruins in the 2015 NHL entry draft, Vladař played several years in his native Czech Republic before moving to North America in 2015. After four seasons in the minor leagues he made his NHL debut with the Bruins during the 2020 Stanley Cup playoffs. Playing career Vladař played in the Czech Republic, and made his debut in the 1st Czech Republic Hockey League, the second highest league, during the 2014–15 season. Dustin Wolf (born April 16, 2001) is an American professional ice hockey goaltender for the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected in the seventh round of the 2019 NHL entry draft, 214th overall, by the Flames. Wolf is noted for his small stature. Weighing 175 pounds and standing six feet tall, he is considered significantly undersized for a goaltender. Despite this, Wolf has been highly successful thus far, being named goaltender of the year in his respective leagues for four consecutive seasons from 2020 through 2023. The 2023–24 Seattle Kraken season was the third season for the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise. They played their home games at Climate Pledge Arena. During the season, the Kraken played in the 2024 Winter Classic, winning 3–0 against the Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Park on January 1, 2024, achieving the first shutout in Winter Classic history. Penticton ( ) is a city in the Okanagan, Okanagan Valley of the British Columbia, Canada, situated between Okanagan Lake, Okanagan and Skaha Lake, Skaha lakes. South Okanagan Events Centre
The South Okanagan Events Centre is a 5,000-seat multi-purpose arena in Penticton, British Columbia, Canada. It is home to the Penticton Vees ice hockey team. 2023–24 Edmonton Oilers Season
The 2023–24 Edmonton Oilers season was the 45th season for the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise that was established on June 22, 1979, and 52nd season for the organization overall, including their play in the World Hockey Association (WHA). During the off-season, the Oilers acquired forward Connor Brown and defenceman Ben Gleason via free agency. They also re-signed forward Mattias Janmark. The team started the season poorly, going before firing head coach Jay Woodcroft and replacing him with Kris Knoblauch. The team's fortunes soon experienced an eventual rejuvenation in their performance, leading to a significant rebound and ultimately achieving a record of 46 wins, 18 losses, and 5 overtime losses under the leadership of Knoblauch. The 2023–24 Vancouver Canucks season was the 54th season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on May 22, 1970. On March 30, 2024, the Canucks clinched a playoff spot for the first time since 2020, after the San Jose Sharks defeated the St. Louis Blues. The 2023–24 Winnipeg Jets season was the 25th season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on June 25, 1997, and the 13th in Winnipeg, since the franchise relocated from Atlanta prior to the start of the 2011–12 NHL season.
