2023–24 Belgian National Division 1
The 2023–24 Belgian National Division 1 was the eighth season of the third-tier football league. The league began on 30 August 2023 and ended on 12 May 2024. This was the final season in the league's current format and from the following season, it split into a Flemish (VV) and Francophone (ACFF) division. Team changes Out Six teams moved to another level: * Patro Eisden Maasmechelen was promoted as champions of the previous season. * RFC Liège and Francs Borains took up the two remaining promotion spots and moved up to the 2023–24 Challenger Pro League as well. * Ninove, Rupel Boom and Mandel United were relegated after finishing in the bottom three positions. Ninove dropped voluntarily and would have been relegated in any case, irrespective of their position. Belgian National Division 1
The Belgian Division 1 is a semi-professional division and the third-highest division in the Football in Belgium, Belgian football Belgian football league system, league system, one level below the Challenger Pro League. It was created by the Royal Belgian Football Association in 2016, coming in at the third level and pushing all divisions one level down. Initially it was known as the ''Belgian First Amateur Division'', but due to the negative connotation of the word ''amateur'' the league was renamed to Belgian National Division 1 from the 2019–20 season onwards. Then, from the 2024–25 season, a split was made into two separate divisions, with the teams holding a Flemish license and those playing with a Francophone license now playing in separate divisions within the league. 2024–25 Challenger Pro League
The 2024–25 season of the Challenger Pro League began on 16 August 2024 and is scheduled to end in May 2025. It is the third season under its new name after being renamed from ''First Division B''. Team changes Incoming * La Louvière and Lokeren-Temse were promoted from the 2023–24 Belgian National Division 1. Both clubs will play their first-ever season at the second level, although they both represent new versions of older successful defunct teams which even played at the highest level: R.A.A. Louviéroise and K.S.C. Lokeren Oost-Vlaanderen. If counting those teams, they returned after 15 and 4 year absences respectively. * Eupen and RWDM were relegated from the 2023–24 Belgian Pro League. Eupen returns after 8 years in the top flight, RWDM after just one. Mayron De Almeida (born 22 November 1995) is a Belgian professional footballer who plays as a forward for Belgian National Division 1 club Virton. Career De Almeida came through the youth ranks of Belgian club R.E. Virton. After 11 years at the clubs he left the club and signed for French Ligue 2 side FC Tours. He made his Ligue 2 debut for Tours against Gazélec Ajaccio on 30 September 2016. In December 2017, De Almeida joined Luxembourgish club Progrès Niederkorn on a two-and-a-half-year contract.
