2023–24 Angolan Basketball League
The 2023–24 Angolan Basketball League (known as Unitel Basket for sponsorship reasons) is the 46th season of the Angolan Basketball League, the highest level men's basketball league in Angola. The competition began on 21 October 2023 and finished on 12 May 2024. Petro de Luanda (basketball), Petro de Luanda successfully defended its title and won its fifth consecutive league championship, and their fifteenth in club history. Teams Atlético Sport Aviação (basketball), ASA remained in the league, despite ongoing financial difficulties. C.D. Primeiro de Agosto (men's basketball), Primeiro de Agosto B did not return for the 2023–24 season, which decreased the number of teams to 12. Nine teams from the Luanda Province, two teams from the Benguela Province and one team from the Uíge Province (namely Akiras Academy), participated. Angolan Basketball League
The Angolan Men's Basketball League, (in Portuguese: ''Campeonato Nacional de Basquetebol em Séniores Masculinos''), for sponsorship reasons known as the Unitel Basket, is the top tier men's basketball league in Angola. C.D. Primeiro de Agosto (basketball), Primeiro de Agosto has been the most successful club in Angola with a total of 19 titles won, followed by Atlético Petróleos de Luanda (basketball), Petro de Luanda who have 17 championships. The champions of each Unitel Basket season qualify directly for the Basketball Africa League (BAL). Sponsorship names In 2014, the Angolan Basketball Federation signed a sponsoring deal with Angola's Banco de Investimento e Crédito, which it claimed to be more favourable than the one with Banco Africano de Investimentos. Such agreement caused the league to be renamed as BIC Basket. Jesus Cristo Basquetebol, also known as Jesus Christ Basketball or simply J.C., is an Angolan basketball team based in Viana, Luanda, Viana, Luanda Province. The team was founded in 2021 and entered the top flight Angolan Basketball League in the 2020–21 Angolan Basketball League, 2021 season. The team's name was chosen because the team mainly consists of Catholic players. In their debut season, Jesus Cristo finished in the 9th and last place. In 2023, J.C. played in the play-offs for the first time when they lost to Petro de Luanda (basketball), Petro de Luanda.
