2023 WCHA Women's Ice Hockey Tournament
The 2023 WCHA Ice Hockey Tournament was the 24th edition of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association women's champions, WCHA Tournament. It was played between February 24 and March 4, 2023. It was hosted by the University of Minnesota at Ridder Arena. Minnesota Golden Gophers women's ice hockey, Minnesota won the championship game over Ohio State Buckeyes women's ice hockey, Ohio State, 3–1, making it their eighth title. As the tournament winner, Minnesota received the conference's automatic bid to the 2023 NCAA Division I women's ice hockey tournament. Format The tournament included all eight teams in the conference. Teams were ranked according to their finish in the conference standings. All quarterfinal games were best two of three and were played at the highest seeds home sites, and starting with the semifinals, single-elimination played at Ridder Arena. Ohio State University Ice Rink
The Ohio State University Ice Rink is a 1,415-seat hockey rink located at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, United States. The rink was built in 1961 and houses the Ohio State Buckeyes women's ice hockey team. The men's hockey team occupied the facility from 1963 until 1998, when the Value City Arena was completed. A 1999 renovation brought the rink to full NHL dimensions and improved the facilities. Peyton Hemp
Peyton Hemp (born May 15, 2003) is an American college ice hockey player for Minnesota. She was named the Women's Hockey Commissioners Association National Rookie of the Year in 2022. Early life Hemp attended Andover High School in Andover, Minnesota. During her junior year she recorded 20 goals and 22 assists, and helped lead the Huskies to their first ever Class AA state championship in 2020. During her senior season, she recorded 34 goals and 46 assists, as she helped lead the Huskies back to the Minnesota State High School League Class AA state championship for the second straight season. Her 46 assists and 80 points are a single-season program record at Andover. She finished her career as Andover's all-time leading scorer with 253 career points. Taylor Heise
Taylor Heise (born March 17, 2000) is an American professional ice hockey forward for the Minnesota Frost of the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL). She played college ice hockey at Minnesota where she won the Patty Kazmaier Award in 2022. She is also a member of the United States national team. She was drafted first overall in the 2023 PWHL Draft. Early life Heise attended Red Wing High School where she was a four-time USA Today American Family Insurance All-USA honoree. As a senior in 2018, she recorded 58 goals and 25 assists in 24 games.
