2023 Alpine Skiing World Cup – Men's Super-G
The men's super-G in the 2023 Alpine Skiing World Cup consisted of eight events, including the final. The season was originally planned with eight races, but two were cancelled early in the season and were not planned to be rescheduled. However, when two races planned at Garmisch-Partenkirchen on 28-29 January 2023 were cancelled due to a lack of snow, the two previously-cancelled Super-G races were rescheduled on those dates at Cortina d'Ampezzo, restoring the original Super-G schedule plan. After four events, both defending champion Aleksander Aamodt Kilde and last year's runner-up Marco Odermatt had won two races each and finished second once, but Odermatt led the standings by 28 points due to the fourth result (third versus eighth). Odermatt then won the fifth race (with Kilde second) to add to his lead, and after he won the sixth race as well, his discipline lead was up to 148 points over Kilde. Super-G
Super giant slalom, or super-G, is a racing discipline of alpine skiing. Along with the faster downhill, it is regarded as a "speed" event, in contrast to the technical events giant slalom and slalom. It debuted as an official World Cup event during the 1983 season and was added to the official schedule of the World Championships in 1987 and the Winter Olympics in 1988. Much like downhill, a super-G course consists of widely set gates that racers must pass through. The course is set so that skiers must turn more than in downhill, though the speeds are still much higher than in giant slalom (hence the name). Each athlete only has one run to clock the best time. In the Olympics, super-G courses are usually set on the same slopes as the downhill, but with a lower starting point. Alexis Pinturault () (born 20 March 1991 in Moûtiers) is a French World Cup alpine ski racer and Olympic medalist. With 34 World Cup victories, Pinturault is the most successful French skier in World Cup history. He represented France at seven World Championships and three Winter Olympics, with four bronze medals in the giant slalom. He was the overall World Cup champion in 2021. Pinturault is double combined world champion in 2019 and 2023, the world champion in the team event in 2017, and a two-time world junior champion in giant slalom in 2009 and 2011. Andreas Sander (born 13 June 1989) is a German World Cup alpine ski racer. He specializes in the speed events of downhill and super-G. Career On 13 March 2008, Sander made his World Cup debut in the Bormio Super-G. In December 2010, he scored his first World Cup points in the Val Gardena downhill, finishing in 28th place. Vincent Kriechmayr (born 1 October 1991) is an Austrian World Cup alpine ski racer and specializes in the speed events of super-G and downhill. Kriechmayr is the 2021 world champion in both speed events, super-G and downhill. Career Born in Linz, Upper Austria, Kriechmayr made his World Cup debut in December 2010 at age nineteen. The Lauberhorn ski races (Lauberhorn World Cup alpine ski races () ( downhill, slalom, and combined) are among the highest-attended winter sports events in the world, attracting around 30,000 spectators each year. Beaver Creek Resort
Beaver Creek Resort is an alpine ski resort in the western United States, near Avon, Colorado. The resort comprises three villages, the main Beaver Creek Village, Bachelor Gulch, and Arrowhead to the west. The resort is owned and operated by Vail Resorts which operates multiple additional resorts. Beaver Creek is a regular host of World Cup events, usually in early December. The Lake Louise Ski Resort & Summer Gondola is a ski resort in western Canada, located in Banff National Park near the village of Lake Louise, Alberta.
