2023 Alpine Skiing World Cup – Men's Giant Slalom
The men's giant slalom in the 2023 FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup consisted of ten events including the final. Defending discipline champion Marco Odermatt of Switzerland opened over a 100-point lead in the discipline by winning four of the first five races and finishing third in the other, although he then missed a race due to injury. Odermatt clinched the discipline championship by winning both giant slaloms on 11-12 March in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia. The season was interrupted by the 2023 World Ski Championships in the linked resorts of Courchevel and Méribel, France from 6–19 February 2023. Giant Slalom
Giant slalom (GS) is an alpine skiing and alpine snowboarding competitive discipline. It involves racing between sets of poles ("gates") spaced at a greater distance from each other than in Slalom skiing, slalom but less than in Super-G. Giant slalom and slalom make up the technical events in alpine ski racing. This category separates them from the speed events of Super-G and Downhill (ski competition), downhill. The technical events are normally composed of two runs, held on different courses on the same ski run. Course The vertical drop for a GS course must be for men, and for women. Alexis Pinturault () (born 20 March 1991 in Moûtiers) is a French World Cup alpine ski racer and Olympic medalist. With 34 World Cup victories, Pinturault is the most successful French skier in World Cup history. Marco Schwarz (born 16 August 1995) is an Austrian World Cup alpine ski racer. He focuses on the technical events of slalom and giant slalom, as well as the combined (a mixture of speed and technical disciplines). Planai is a ski area in central Austria, the main mountain in the Schladming area in Styria.
