The 2022–23 season was the 100th season in the history of Villarreal CF and their 10th consecutive season in the top flight. The club participated in La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the UEFA Europa Conference League. This season was the first since 2007–08 or 2009–10 without veteran right-back Mario Gaspar who departed to join english club Watford F.C. following the end of the previous campaign. Étienne Capoue
Étienne René Capoue (born 11 July 1988) is a French professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder. He began his professional career at Toulouse, making 196 total appearances and scoring 13 goals, while making the UNFP Ligue 1 Team of the Year for 2011–12. Jorge Cuenca Barreno (; born 17 November 1999) is a Spanish professional footballer who plays as a centre-back or left-back for Premier League club Fulham. Pau Francisco Torres (born 16 January 1997) is a Spanish professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for club Aston Villa and the Spain national team.
