2022–23 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Season
The 2022–23 NCAA Division I men's ice hockey season began on October 1, 2022, and concluded with the NCAA championship on April 8, 2023. This was the 75th season in which an NCAA ice hockey championship was held, and was US college hockey's 129th year overall. Conference realignment On August 31, 2021, Alaska Anchorage announced that the $3 million fundraising goal had been reached and the team would return for the 2022–23 season. On February 23, Lindenwood University announced that they would be promoting their athletic program to Division I for the 2022–23 academic year. Then on March 17, Lindenwood announced that they would promote their men's ice hockey team from club to Division I, which was confirmed the next day by university president John R. Porter. Amalie Arena
Amalie Arena (officially stylized as AMALIE Arena) is a multipurpose arena in Tampa, Florida, United States, that has been used for ice hockey, basketball, arena football, concerts, and other events. It is mainly used as the home for the Tampa Bay Lightning of the National Hockey League. The building opened in 1996 and was originally known as the Ice Palace. Lindenwood Lions Men's Ice Hockey
The Lindenwood Lions men's ice hockey team represents the Lindenwood University in National Collegiate Athletic Association, NCAA NCAA Division I, Division I College ice hockey, ice hockey. The program had won four club National Championships prior to its promotion to varsity status. History ACHA Era Lindenwood founded its men's program as a club team in 2003 in the American Collegiate Hockey Association. From its inception, the Lions performed well on the ice, winning 25 out of 29 games in their first year. As the team's schedule increased in difficulty, head coach Derek Schaub kept the program in good standing with a 30-win season and championship game appearance in 2008. Michigan Tech Huskies Men's Ice Hockey
The Michigan Tech Huskies men's ice hockey team is an NCAA Division I college ice hockey program that represents Michigan Technological University. The Huskies are a member of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA). They play at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena in Houghton, Michigan. The Desert Hockey Classic is an annual mid season ice hockey tournament hosted by Arizona State University. History Michigan Tech won the inaugural tournament in 2015. Providence Friars Men's Ice Hockey
The Providence Friars men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I (NCAA), Division I college ice hockey program that represents Providence College. A member of Hockey East, the Friars have been coached by Nate Leaman since 2011. Leaman led the friars to a national championship in 2015. Ledyard Bank Classic
The Ledyard Bank Classic (formerly the Auld Lang Syne Classic) is a college Division I men's ice hockey tournament played before New Years at the Thompson Arena in Hanover, New Hampshire, the home arena for Dartmouth College. The tournament was first held in 1978 and was usually played on the final two days of December every year until 1988. Since then it was played infrequently (though with no more than a two-year gap between events) until 2008 when it returned to an annual schedule which it continues to possess. In 2002 the holiday tournament changed its name from 'Auld Lang Syne' to 'Ledyard Bank' due to sponsorship. The 2016 tournament featured a predetermined schedule, as opposed to an elimination format, which prevented a traditional championship game. The Clarkson Golden Knights men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I (NCAA), Division I college ice hockey program that represents Clarkson University. The Holiday Face–Off is a mid-season college ice hockey tournament with the first iteration played in late December 2021. Wisconsin is the defending champion after defeating Northeastern in the 2023 championship game. The 2023 Kwik Trip Holiday Face–Off featured Wisconsin, Minnesota Duluth, Northeastern and Air Force on December 28 and 29 at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee. History The Holiday Face–Off was brought about by the Gazelle Group, a marketing firm based in Princeton, New Jersey. The group sought to rekindle a mid-western holiday tournament that had previously been organized by the University of Wisconsin–Madison as the Badger Showdown. The Western Michigan Broncos men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I (NCAA), Division I college ice hockey program that represents Western Michigan University. Great Lakes Invitational
The Great Lakes Invitational (GLI) is a four-team National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) men's ice hockey tournament held annually at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan, around the New Year's holiday. It was previously held in Detroit as part of College Hockey in the D. The tournament was born out of a conversation between the general manager of Olympia Stadium, Lincoln Cavalieri, Michigan Tech's long-time coach, John MacInnes, and Detroit Red Wings scout Jack Paterson. The three men were discussing the lack of American-born players in the National Hockey League (NHL) and concluded that a prestigious collegiate tournament could make a difference by promoting interest in hockey among young athletes, as well as the general public. Friendship Four
The Friendship Four is an annual mid-season college ice hockey tournament that has been held since 2015 at SSE Arena Belfast in Belfast, Northern Ireland with the winner receiving the Belpot Trophy. It is currently the only college ice hockey tournament to take place outside of the United States. History The tournament began as a way to foster stronger economic development, trade and investment, tourism, cultural exchange, and educational linkages between the sister cities of Boston and Belfast. Each year four teams are selected to participate in the tournament which is typically held on the same weekend as Thanksgiving in the United States. As of 2019, all games have been played at the SSE Arena Belfast while all participating schools have come from the eastern region. The Denver Pioneers men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college ice hockey program that represents the University of Denver. They play at Magness Arena in Denver, Colorado. The Pioneers are a member of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC). Previously, they were members of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA), from its creation in 1959 until 2013.
