2022–23 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Season
The 2022–23 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men's basketball season began with practices in October 2022, followed by the start of the 2022–23 NCAA Division I men's basketball season in November. Conference play started in December and concluded in March 2023. This was the 42nd season of MAAC basketball. The 2023 MAAC tournament was played March 7–11, 2023 at the Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey for the fourth year in a row. This was the first season in the MAAC for Mount St. Mary's. On May 2, 2022, it was announced that the Mountaineers would leave the Northeast Conference and join the MAAC on July 1, 2022. They replace Monmouth, which left the MAAC after last season and joined the Colonial Athletic Association on July 1, 2022. Reggie Witherspoon (basketball)
Phillip Reginald Witherspoon (born February 21, 1961) is an American college basketball coach who is the former men's basketball head coach of the Canisius Golden Griffins men's basketball, Canisius Golden Griffins and the Buffalo Bulls men's basketball, Buffalo Bulls. Witherspoon played college basketball at Erie Kats, Erie Community College under John Beilein and then at Wheeling Cardinals, Wheeling Jesuit under Jim O'Brien (basketball, born 1952), Jim O'Brien. RaShawn Stores (born April 5, 1991) is an American basketball coach and player who is currently an assistant coach for the NJIT Highlanders basketball team. Stores was previously the interim head coach of the Manhattan Jaspers during the 2022–23 season. Stores also played basketball for Manhattan collegiately from 2012 to 2016. Steve Masiello
Stephen John Masiello Jr. (born September 2, 1977) is an American college basketball coach and a former player. He is currently the associate head coach at St. John's. Masiello is a native of White Plains, New York. He graduated from Iona Grammar School in 1991 and attended Archbishop Stepinac High School for two years before transferring to the Harvey School in Katonah, New York. Masiello played collegiately as a walk-on at Kentucky for coaches Rick Pitino and Tubby Smith from 1996 to 2000. Though he rarely played, he was a member of two Final Four teams, including the 1997–98 Wildcats team that won the national championship. Manhattan Jaspers Men's Basketball
The Manhattan Jaspers men's basketball team is the basketball team that represents Manhattan University in The Bronx, New York City, New York (state), New York, United States. The school's team currently competes in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. They have won the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament championship five times (1993, 2003, 2004, 2014, 2015). The Jaspers have had three players named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Year, most recently Luis Flores in 2003. Bashir Mason
Bashir Mason (born February 11, 1984) is an American college basketball coach and current head men's basketball coach at Saint Peter's University. He was previously an assistant coach at Marist College in 2008, and an assistant coach at Wagner College in 2010. Mason played high school basketball at St. Benedict's Preparatory School, then joined head coach Bruiser Flint to play college basketball at Drexel University. He was a four-year starter for the Dragons, scoring over 1,000 points and handing out 471 assists as a point guard. He was a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) all-defensive player every season, as well as the CAA's defensive player of the year as a freshman. Shaheen Holloway (born October 7, 1976) is an American men's basketball coach and former player who is the coach for the Seton Hall Pirates. He played college basketball at Seton Hall from 1996 to 2000. A point guard, Holloway played professionally for seven seasons.
