The 2022–23 season was the 13th in the history of Melbourne City Football Club. In addition to the domestic league, Melbourne City also participated in the Australia Cup for the eighth time. Melbourne City Football Club is an Australian professional Association football, soccer club based in the South-Eastern Metropolitan Region, South-Eastern region of Melbourne, Victoria. They compete in the A-League Men, the Australian soccer league system, highest division of soccer in Australia, under licence from the Australian Professional Leagues (APL). Founded in 2009 as Melbourne Heart, the club competed under that name from its inaugural 2010–11 A-League, 2010–11 A-League season until the end of the 2013–14 A-League, 2013–14 season. It was rebranded as Melbourne City following its acquisition by the City Football Group (CFG) and Holding M.S. Australia in January 2014. 2023 A-League Men Grand Final
The 2023 A-League Men Grand Final was the 18th A-League Men Grand Final, the championship-deciding match of the Australian A-League Men, and the culmination of the 2022–23 season. The match was played on 3 June 2023 at CommBank Stadium in Parramatta between Melbourne City and Central Coast Mariners. Background Melbourne City were playing their fourth A-League Grand Final, achieving champion status just once in 2021. City had lost the previous season’s edition of the Grand Final against Western United at their home stadium. They had also lost in their first Grand Final appearance after losing to Sydney FC in 2020. In both Grand Final losses, City were contesting as minor premiers. For Central Coast Mariners, it was their first Grand Final since 2013 when they defeated Western Sydney Wanderers at Sydney Football Stadium. Valon Berisha
Valon Berisha (born 7 February 1993) is a professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Austrian Bundesliga club LASK and the Kosovo national team. Born in Sweden and raised in Norway, he previously represented Norway at youth and full international level. Club career Early years Berisha was born in Malmö, Sweden, to Kosovan immigrants from Podujevo, but grew up in Norway, living in Egersund, a town south of Stavanger. He spent his early years at local club Egersunds IK. Aiden O'Neill
Aiden Connor O'Neill (born 4 July 1998) is an Australian professional soccer player who currently plays as a defensive midfielder for New York City FC and the Australia national team. Born in Brisbane, O'Neill played youth football for Kenmore F.C. (now called UQFC), then Brisbane Athletic and Burnley before making his professional debut for the latter in 2016. He spent some time on loan to Oldham Athletic and Fleetwood Town, scoring his first ever professional goal for the latter club. He returned to Australia, on loan, to play for Central Coast Mariners in 2018. He previously represented the Australian under-23 national team. Early life O'Neill is of Irish ancestry.
