2022–23 Latvian–Estonian Basketball League
The 2022–23 Latvian–Estonian Basketball League, known as the Paf (company), Paf Latvian–Estonian Basketball League for sponsorship reasons, was the fifth season of the Latvian–Estonian Basketball League, the premier basketball competition for men's teams in Latvia and Estonia. Nine Estonian and six Latvian teams were joined by Ukrainian team BC Prometey, who went on to win the league. Competition format The regular season consisted of two rounds, followed by the quarter-finals and the Final Four. Teams Following the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, teams from Ukraine started looking for opportunities to join leagues abroad. On 17 June 2022, it was announced that the 2020–21 Ukrainian Basketball SuperLeague champions BC Prometey will join Latvian-Estonian Basketball League for the 2022–23 season. BC Prometey
BC Prometey (), also known as Prometey Slobozhanske, was a Ukrainian basketball club based in Slobozhanske and Kamianske. It played in the Ukrainian Basketball SuperLeague, the highest tier of basketball in Ukraine, from 2019 to 2022. From 2022 to 2024, the team was based in Riga and played in the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. History The team was founded as Sports Club Prometey in September 2018, by Volodymyr Dubynsky and Pavlo Chukhno. The plans were to develop a basketball and volleyball team. In 2018, Prometey joined the Ukrainian Higher League, the national second tier. On October 8, 2018, they played their first game against Zolotyi Vik, winning 86–80. Prometey went on to win the league title at the first attempt. Therefore, it was promoted to the SuperLeague for the 2019–20 season. BK Ogre
BK Ogre is a professional basketball club based in Ogre, Latvia playing in the Latvian Basketball League and Latvian-Estonian Basketball League. The professional club was founded in 2014, but until then there was a local team that played second tier basketball. Ogre has a long history of bringing up professional players like Kaspars Bērziņš, Artūrs Bērziņš, Rinalds Sirsniņš among many others. BK Liepāja, known as Betsafe/Liepāja for sponsorship reasons, is a professional basketball club in Liepāja, Latvia playing in the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League and Latvian Basketball League. The Latvijas Universitāte men's basketball team represents University of Latvia in Riga, Latvia, also known as LU. and it plays in the Latvian Basketball League and Latvian-Estonian Basketball League. BK Ventspils
BK Ventspils is a professional basketball club that is located in Ventspils, Latvia. The club competes in the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League. History BK Ventspils was founded in 1994. In first years Ventspils proved themselves as relevant part of Latvian basketball, but major step came in 1997 when Ventspils Olympic Center was built. At that time Ventspils started to play in international competitions playing in 1997–98 edition of FIBA Korać Cup, which was followed by playing in FIBA Saporta Cup. Rapla KK, also known as UTILITAS RAPLA for sponsorship reasons, is a professional basketball team based in Rapla, Estonia. The team plays in the Estonian-Latvian Basketball League and the Korvpalli Meistriliiga (KML). Their home arena is the Sadolin Sports Hall. History The origins of the team can be traced back to Korvpalliklubi Rapla (Basketball Club Rapla), which was founded in 1996 as a division of the Rapla Sports School. BC Pärnu, also known as Pärnu Sadam (English: Port of Pärnu) for sponsorship reasons, is a professional basketball club based in Pärnu, Estonia. The team plays in the Estonian-Latvian Basketball League and the Korvpalli Meistriliiga (KML). Their home arena is the Pärnu Sports Hall. In 2022, the team won their first and only KML title. TalTech Basketball, also known as TalTech/ALEXELA for sponsorship reasons, is a professional basketball team based in Tallinn, Estonia. They are a part of the Tallinn University of Technology Sports Club. The team plays in the Estonian-Latvian Basketball League and the Korvpalli Meistriliiga (KML). Tallinna Kalev is a basketball team based in Tallinn, Estonia. The team was founded in 2002 as Pirita Palliklubi and played in the Korvpalli Meistriliiga (KML) from 2002 to 2024.
