2022–23 Latvian Hockey League Season
The 2022–23 Latvian Hockey League season was the 32nd season of the Latvian Hockey Higher League, Latvian Hockey League, the top level of ice hockey in Latvia. The season was played from September 2022 to April 2023. This season expanded its participants to nine teams – six from Latvia and three from Lithuania. HK Zemgale/LLU, Zemgale/LLU were the defending champions and won the title for the second season in a row when they defeated HK Mogo, Mogo/LSPA in five games. Gatis Gricinskis of Zemgale/LLU was named the most valuable player (MVP) of the finals series. Latvian Hockey Higher League
The Latvian Hockey Higher League (), also known as the Optibet Hockey League () since 2017 due to sponsorship by Optibet, is the top tier league of ice hockey in Latvia. The league is competed by nine teams from Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. Previously it was also known as the Latvian Open Hockey Championships (''Latvijas atklātais čempionāts hokejā'') and the Samsung Premier League (''Samsung Premjerlīga'') from 2006 to 2008. The league was established in 1931. HK Liepājas Metalurgs, which played in the league between 1999 and 2013, has been the most successful team of the tournament, having won seven titles. Elektrėnai () is a city of about 11,000 inhabitants in Vilnius County, Lithuania; since 2000 it has been the capital of the Elektrėnai Municipality. It is situated between the two largest cities in Lithuania – Vilnius and Kaunas. HK Prizma Riga/IHS is a professional ice hockey team in Riga, Latvia, that plays in the Latvian Hockey Higher League, the top tier of the sport in Latvia. HS Rīga
HS Rīga () is a Latvian professional ice hockey team that plays in the Latvian Hockey Higher League, the top tier of the sport in Latvia. The team is based in Riga and play their home games at the Hokeja halle Riga. History Hockey School Rīga was founded on November 30, 1999, and is overseen in part by Riga City Council. HK Dinaburga are a professional Latvian ice hockey team that plays in the , the second tier of the sport in Latvia. The team is based in Daugavpils and play their home games at the Daugavpils Ice Arena. History The team was founded in 2013, initially playing under the name of the city in which they're located; Daugavpils. The previous team in the city, DHK Latgale, folded at the culmination of the 2011-12 season.
