2022–23 Girabola
The 2022–23 Girabola was the 45th season of top-tier football in Angola. The season ran from 24 September 2022 until 21 May 21 2023. The league comprised 16 teams, the bottom three of which were relegated to the 2023–24 Provincial stages. The winner and runner-up qualified for the 2023–24 CAF Champions League qualifications round. Girabola
Girabola, or ''Campeonato Nacional de Futebol de Séniores Masculinos'', is the top division of Angolan association football, football. It is organized by the Angolan Football Federation. The term "Girabola" () is a creation of the nationalist, radio broadcaster and sports reporter Rui Carvalho, in 1972, at a time when the Angolan championship was still officially called "Campeonato do Estado Ultramarino de Angola". The name "Girabola" differentiated the competition from the other overseas provinces and was a subtle form of anti-colonial protest. The league winner and runner-up qualify for the CAF Champions League. History The competition is the successor to the "Campeonato do Estado Ultramarino de Angola". Saurimo
Saurimo, formerly known as Henrique de Carvalho, is a city in Angola. It is the capital of Lunda Sul Province. As of 2014, Saurimo has a population of 393,000 people, which steadily grows as a result of migration. History The city was formerly known as Henrique de Carvalho, a Portuguese explorer, who visited the region in 1884 and first made contact with the local Lunda people. Lubango, formerly known as Sá da Bandeira, is a municipality in Angola, capital of the Huíla Province, with a population of 914,456 in 2022. The city center had a population of 600,751 in 2014 making it the second-most populous city in Angola after the capital city Luanda. Cuíto, formerly known as Silva Porto, is a city and municipality in central Angola, capital of Bié Province. The municipality had a population of 450,881 in 2014. Projected to be the tenth fastest growing city on the African continent between 2020 and 2025, with a 5.56% growth. Cuando Cubango FC
Cuando Cubango Futebol Clube or simply Cuando Cubango FC is an Angolan sports club from the city of Menongue, in the Angolan southern province of Cuando Cubango. The club was founded as Futebol Clube da Casa Militar. In 2016, the team secured a place in the Gira Angola (Angola's second division championship) in 2016 after winning the Cuando Cubango province football championship. Estádio Jones Cufune Mundunduleno is a football stadium located at the Mandengwe neighborhood in the city of Luena, Moxico Province, Angola. It is owned by F.C. Estádio 4 de Janeiro is a football stadium in Uíge, Angola. History Inaugurated on March 17, 1968, as Estádio José Ferreira de Lima, the stadium was then owned by Clube Recreativo do Uíge. Shortly after the independence, it was nationalized.
