2022 Étoile De Bessèges
The 2022 Étoile de Bessèges – Tour du Gard () was a road cycling stage race that took place between 2 and 6 February 2022 almost entirely within the French department of Gard. The race was rated as a category 2.1 event on the 2022 UCI Europe Tour calendar, and was the 52nd edition of the Étoile de Bessèges. Teams Nine of the 18 UCI WorldTeams, nine UCI ProTeams, and three UCI Continental teams made up the 21 teams that participated in the race. Each team entered a full squad of seven riders, for a total of 147 riders who started the race, of which 123 finished. 2022 UCI Europe Tour
The 2022 UCI Europe Tour was the eighteenth season of the UCI Europe Tour. The 2022 season began on 23 January 2022 with the Clàssica Comunitat Valenciana 1969, and concluded on 16 October 2022 with the Chrono des Nations and the Veneto Classic. Throughout the season, points are awarded to the top finishers of stages within stage races and the final general classification standings of each of the stages races and one-day events. The quality and complexity of a race also determines how many points are awarded to the top finishers, the higher the UCI rating of a race, the more points are awarded. Bessèges
Bessèges (; oc, Besseja) is a commune in the Gard department in France. It is situated on the river Cèze. History Historically Bessèges was a hamlet of Robiac. Its importance began with the opening of a coal mine in 1809, followed by an iron and steel plant in 1833, and eventually the railway reached it in 1857. The commune was created in 1857 from parts of Gagnières and Robiac-Rochessadoule. At its peak in the late 19th century, the population was over 11,000. However, during the 20th century it declined and eventually the mine was abandoned in 1964, and the steel-works in 1987. Today its economy is based on tourism, and it is home to the Étoile de Bessèges road bicycle race. Bryan Coquard
Bryan Coquard (born 25 April 1992) is a French cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . He was a silver medalist at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the Omnium. Career Youth and amateur career Coquard began cycling in 1999 at the age of seven, at the US Pontchâteau club. In September 2008, aged sixteen, he joined CREPS Bordeaux, where he was coached by Éric Vermeulen. In 2009, Coquard won the gold medal in the omnium at the UCI Juniors World Championships, as well as winning the scratch at the European championships. He retained his Junior Omnium crown in 2010, winning four of the six events, he also finished second in the Scratch Race. Due to his track success, in June 2011 Coquard signed a contract with for the start of the 2013 professional road season.
