2022 IIHF U18 Women's World Championship
The 2022 IIHF U18 Women's World Championship was the 14th IIHF U18 Women's World Championship in ice hockey. On December 24, 2021, the tournament was cancelled for the second year in a row by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, on March 21, 2022, the IIHF announced it had reconsidered and rescheduled the Top Division tournament for June 6–13, 2022 in Madison, Wisconsin, United States. The venues which hosted the event in Dane County, Wisconsin were LaBahn Arena, located on the campus of the University of Wisconsin in Madison and Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena in Middleton, Wisconsin, Middleton, home of the United States Hockey League, USHL's Madison Capitols. LaBahn Arena
LaBahn Arena is the home ice of the Wisconsin Badgers women's ice hockey team. It was the second arena to be purpose-built for a women's collegiate hockey team; the first was Minnesota Golden Gophers women's ice hockey, Minnesota's Ridder Arena. The arena is connected via a tunnel to the Kohl Center, which the women's team shared with the men's team from its inception in 1999 until 2012. The men's team also practices there. The facility also houses locker rooms for the swimming and diving teams. Naming The arena is named for longtime Badger boosters Chuck and Mary Ann LaBahn, its main fundraisers. Kirsten Simms (born August 31, 2004) is an American college ice hockey forward for the University of Wisconsin of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and member of the United States women's national ice hockey team. She was named Most Outstanding Player at the 2025 NCAA Division I women's ice hockey tournament. Playing career Simms began her collegiate career for the University of Wisconsin during the 2022–23 season. During her freshman year, she led all freshman in goals with 16 goals and 16 assists in 41 games. She was named the WCHA Rookie of the Month for the month of December 2022, after she recorded seven points in five games during the month. Ebba Hedqvist
Ebba Hedqvist (born 30 September 2006) is a Swedish ice hockey forward for Modo Hockey of the Swedish Women's Hockey League (SDHL) and member of Sweden women's national ice hockey team. Playing career Hedqvist made her SDHL debut for Modo Hockey during the 2021–22 season at sixteen years old, where she recorded four goals and ten assists in 31 games. During the 2022–23 season, she recorded five goals and seven assists in 30 games. During the 2023–24 season, she recorded nine goals and 17 assists in 32 games. During the 2024–25 season, she recorded seven goals and 17 assists in 35 games. On 23 February 2025, she signed a two-year contract extension with Modo.
