2022 GCC Games
The 2022 GCC Games was the third edition of multi-sport event for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. It was held in Kuwait, from 16 to 31 May 2022. A total of more than 1,500 athletes and 500 officials participated in 16 sports. Female athletes competed for the first time at the GCC Games in this edition. The six sports involving female athletes are athletics, basketball (3×3), cycling, futsal, esports, and padel. Background The Games were originally scheduled to take place from 3 to 14 April 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, on 3 March 2020, the event was postponed. It was then postponed multiple times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Sports 16 sports were contested in this edition of GCC Games. Kuwait City
Kuwait City (; ) is the capital and largest city of Kuwait. Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah
Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah (; 25 June 1937 – 16 December 2023) was Emir of Kuwait from 2020 until his death in 2023. He was minister of interior (1978–1988, 2003–2006), minister of defense (1988–1991) and deputy prime minister (2020–2023). Nawaf was nominated as crown prince on 7 February 2006, during the reign of his half-brother Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. During his three-year rule as emir, he grappled with internal political disputes. Early life and education Nawaf Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah was born on 25 June 1937. He was a son of the tenth ruler of Kuwait, Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. He studied at various schools in Kuwait, among them Hamada, Sharq, Al-Naqra, Eastern and Mubarakiya. GCC Games
The GCC Games is a regional multi-sport event which involves participants from the Gulf Cooperation Council region. The GCC Games, a quadrennial multi-sport event, was established by the union and first held in 2011 GCC Games, 2011. There are numerous long-running GCC Championships for individual sports, including: the Gulf Cooperation Council Athletics Championships (first held in 1986; Gulf Cooperation Council Youth Athletics Championships, youth section from 2000) football, Archery, Athletics at the GCC Games, athletics, Badminton, sailing, basketball, Swimming, Marathon Swimming, Diving, Water Polo, Artistic Swimming, tennis, gymnastics (senior and youth levels), weightlifting, futsal, snooker, Cycling (BMX Freestyle, BMX Racing, Road Cycling, Track Cycling), Chess and table tennis. Multi-sport Event
A multi-sport event is an organized sporting event, often held over multiple days, featuring competition in many different sports among organized teams of athletes from (mostly) nation-states.
