2022 Alpine Skiing World Cup – Men's Super-G
The men's super-G in the 2022 FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup consisted of seven events including the final. A race originally scheduled for Lake Louise in November and then rescheduled to Bormio in December was cancelled twice and was thought unlikely to be rescheduled, potentially reducing the season to six events. However, the race was rescheduled to Wengen on 13 January 2022. After this race, 2016 champion Aleksander Aamodt Kilde of Norway had won three of the five completed races (but failed to complete one) and led the discipline; two other races were within 100 points (one race win) of his lead, although no one was closer than 60 points behind. Kilde then clinched the discipline championship for the season in front of a home crowd by winning the next-to-last race of the season in Kvitfjell. Super-G
Super giant slalom, or super-G, is a racing discipline of alpine skiing. Along with the faster downhill, it is regarded as a "speed" event, in contrast to the technical events giant slalom and slalom. It debuted as an official World Cup event during the 1983 season and was added to the official schedule of the World Championships in 1987 and the Winter Olympics in 1988. Much like downhill, a super-G course consists of widely set gates that racers must pass through. The course is set so that skiers must turn more than in downhill, though the speeds are still much higher than in giant slalom (hence the name). Each athlete only has one run to clock the best time. In the Olympics, super-G courses are usually set on the same slopes as the downhill, but with a lower starting point. Vincent Kriechmayr (born 1 October 1991) is an Austrian World Cup alpine ski racer and specializes in the speed events of super-G and downhill. Kriechmayr is the 2021 world champion in both speed events, super-G and downhill. Career Born in Linz, Upper Austria, Kriechmayr made his World Cup debut in December 2010 at age nineteen. He achieved his first World Cup podium in March 2015, a runner-up finish in super-G at Kvitfjell, Norway. He achieved his first World Cup victory in a super-G in December 2017 at Beaver Creek, Colorado. His fourth World Cup victory came in the classic downhill at Wengen in 2019. Marco Odermatt (born 8 October 1997) is a Swiss World Cup alpine ski racer who races in giant slalom, super-G and downhill. He is considered the most complete alpine ski racer of his generation. In addition to the World Cup, Odermatt has competed for Switzerland at two Junior World Championships, three World Championships, and the 2022 Winter Olympics. The Lauberhorn ski races (Lauberhorn World Cup alpine ski races () ( downhill, slalom, and combined) are among the highest-attended winter sports events in the world, attracting around 30,000 spectators each year. An established attraction is the airshow by the Patrouille Suisse, the aerobatic demonstration team of the Swiss Air Force. Val Gardena (; ; ) is a valley in the Dolomites of South Tyrol, Northern Italy. It is best known as a tourist skiing, rock climbing, and woodcarving area. Courchevel () is a French Alps ski resort located in the Tarentaise Valley. It is a part of Les Trois Vallées, the largest linked ski areas in the world. Courchevel also refers to the towns of Courchevel 1300 (Le Praz), Courchevel 1550, Courchevel 1650 (Moriond), and Courchevel 1850, which are named for their altitudes in metres.
