The 2021–22 season was Sunderland A.F.C., Sunderland's 143rd year in their history and fourth consecutive season in EFL League One, League One. Along with the league, the club competed in the 2021–22 FA Cup, FA Cup, the 2021–22 EFL Cup, EFL Cup and the 2021–22 EFL Trophy, EFL Trophy. The season covers the period from 1 July 2021 to 30 June 2022. Sunderland finished fifth in the regular season, entering the EFL League One play-offs.
