The 2021–22 season was Sunderland A.F.C., Sunderland's 143rd year in their history and fourth consecutive season in EFL League One, League One. Along with the league, the club competed in the 2021–22 FA Cup, FA Cup, the 2021–22 EFL Cup, EFL Cup and the 2021–22 EFL Trophy, EFL Trophy. Sunderland () is a port city and metropolitan borough in Tyne and Wear, England. It is a port at the mouth of the River Wear on the North Sea, approximately south-east of Newcastle upon Tyne. Lee Stephen Burge (born 9 January 1993) is an English professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for club Northampton Town.
