2021–22 Cairns Taipans Season
The 2021–22 NBL season was the 23rd season for the Cairns Taipans in the NBL, and their first under the leadership of their new head coach Adam Forde. Squad Signings * Imports Scott Machado and Cameron Oliver, and Next Star Mojave King had already signed two-season contracts the season prior. * After their penultimate game of the 2020–21 season, the Taipans announced that head coach Mike Kelly would not be returning for the 2021–22 season. * On 25 June, the team option on Jordan Ngatai's contract was taken up by the club. Kouat Noi
Kouat Noi (born 29 October 1997) is a South Sudanese-Australian professional basketball player for the Sutherland Sharks of the NBL1 East. He is also contracted with the Sydney Kings of the National Basketball League (NBL). He played college basketball for the TCU Horned Frogs. Noi started his professional career in 2019 with the Cairns Taipans of the NBL. He joined the Kings in 2022 and won an NBL championship in 2023. Early life Noi was born in Khartoum, Sudan, during the height of the Second Sudanese Civil War. His family fled the country amid escalations of the conflict, first to Egypt and later to Australia in 2002. Growing up in Newcastle, he blossomed into a basketball star, and went on to average 9.1 points and 4.3 rebounds while helping lead Australia to a silver medal at the 2014 FIBA Under-17 World Championship in Dubai. Townsville Crocodiles
The Townsville Crocodiles were an Australian professional men's basketball team based in the North Queensland city of Townsville. They competed in the National Basketball League (NBL) and played their home games at the Townsville Entertainment and Convention Centre. Between their inception in 1993 and their final season in 2015–16, the Crocodiles enjoyed financial stability and sustained community support, but on-court success eluded them. Team history 1986–1992: Gaining admission into the NBL Former Brisbane Bullets guard Mark Bragg, a Townsville resident, began campaigning to bring an NBL franchise to Townsville in the late 1980s. 2020–21 NBL Season
The 2020–21 NBL season was the 43rd season of the National Basketball League since its establishment in 1979. A total of nine teams contested in the 2020–21 season. The regular season was played between January and June 2021, followed by a post-season in June 2021. Australian broadcast rights to the season were held by SBS Viceland in the second year of a two-year deal. All games were available live and free on streaming platforms such as SBS On Demand. ESPN also broadcast select games, including all games after 7.30pm AEDT. In New Zealand, Sky Sport were the official league broadcaster. The NBL continued broadcasting games online on Twitch in the second year of a two-year deal.
