2021 WTA Finals – Singles
Garbiñe Muguruza defeated Anett Kontaveit in the final, 6–3, 7–5 to win the Singles title at the 2021 WTA Finals. She became the first Spaniard to win the title. Ashleigh Barty was the defending champion from when the event was last held in 2019, but withdrew to prioritize her recovery and prepare for the upcoming season. Aryna Sabalenka, Barbora Krejčíková, Maria Sakkari, Iga Świątek, Paula Badosa, and Kontaveit made their singles debuts at the WTA Finals. Garbiñe Muguruza Blanco (; born 8 October 1993) is a Spanish-Venezuelan professional tennis player. She has a career-high singles ranking of world No. 1 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), and a career-high doubles ranking of world No. 10. Two-time defending champion Serena Williams defeated Simona Halep in the final, 6–3, 6–0 to win the singles tennis title at the 2014 WTA Finals. The WTA Finals (formerly known as the WTA Tour Championships or WTA Championships) is a tournament of the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) played annually at the end of the season. The event is uniquely reserved for players at the top of the WTA rankings. Anett Kontaveit (; born 24 December 1995) is an Estonian professional tennis player. She has been ranked as high as world No. 2 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), which she first achieved on 6 June 2022, making her the highest-ranked Estonian player in history. In 2021, she became the first Estonian to participate in the WTA Finals, where she reached the final. Kontaveit also holds a career-high ranking of No. 95 in doubles, achieved on 2 March 2020.
