2021 New York Excelsior Season
The 2021 New York Excelsior season will be the fourth season of New York Excelsior's (NYXL) existence in the Overwatch League and their first under head coach Lee "WhyNot" Ju-hyeop. Preceding offseason Roster changes The NYXL entered free agency with seven free agents, all of which became free agents due to the team not exercising the option to retain the player for another year. Acquisitions The Excelsior's first offseason acquisition was Jo "Yakpung" Gyeong-mu, a tank player coming off of an Overwatch Contenders Korea championship with O2 Blast who signed on December 11, 2020. Six days later, they signed rookie Lee "Friday" Seung-woo, a "skilled and flexible" support player coming from Contenders team OZ Gaming. Jeff Wilpon
Jeffrey Scott Wilpon (born December 9, 1961) is an American businessman who is the executive vice-president of Sterling Equities, and the owner of the Overwatch League Esports team the New York Excelsior. He is the former COO of the New York Mets baseball team and son of the former principal owner of the New York Mets Fred Wilpon. Jeff and other Wilpon family members invested with Bernie Madoff's ponzi scheme that collapsed in 2008. Unlike many who lost their investments, it was revealed in the Madoff firm's court case, ''Securities Investor Protection Corp. vs. Bernard L. Kim "Haksal" Hyo-jong
Kim Hyo-jong (), better known by Haksal, is a retired professional South Korean ''Overwatch'' player. During his career, he was best known for his play on the damage hero Genji and support hero Brigitte. He played in the Overwatch League (OWL) for the Vancouver Titans and New York Excelsior and in Overwatch Apex and Overwatch Contenders for team RunAway. Kim began his professional ''Overwatch'' career playing for RunAway in Overwatch Apex, a tournament series in South Korea. Seoul Dynasty
Seoul Dynasty is a South Korean professional ''Overwatch'' esports team based in Seoul, South Korea. The Dynasty compete in the Overwatch League (OWL) as a member of the league's East region. Founded in 2017, Seoul Dynasty is one of the league's twelve founding members and the only professional ''Overwatch'' team based in South Korea. The team is owned by Kevin Chou of Generation Gaming, who also own and operate an academy team for the Dynasty that compete in Overwatch Contenders (OWC) under the moniker Gen.G Esports. Park Jong-ryeol (), better known by his online alias Saebyeolbe, is a South Korean former professional ''Overwatch'' player. In his prime, he was considered one of the world's best Tracer players. Philadelphia Fusion is an American-based professional ''Overwatch'' esports team based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Fusion compete in the Overwatch League (OWL) as a member of the league's East region. Founded in 2017, Philadelphia is one of the league's twelve founding members and is the first professional esports team based in Pennsylvania. Hitscan in video game design, most commonly in first-person shooters, is a type of hit registration system that determines whether an object has been hit or not simply by scanning if the item used was aimed directly at its target and then applies the effects of the item (usually damage) instantly. Overwatch Contenders (OWC) is an international esports league for the video game '' Overwatch'' that is organized by Blizzard Entertainment. The series acts as the development league for aspiring Overwatch League (OWL) professionals. 2021 Overwatch League Season
The 2021 Overwatch League season was the fourth season of the Overwatch League (OWL), a professional esports league for the video game ''Overwatch''. The regular season began on April 16, 2021, and concluded on August 21. The season featured four midseason tournaments throughout the regular season along with a new point system for season playoff seeding. Similar to the 2020 season, teams are split into two geographical regions.
