2020–21 Motherwell F.C. Season
The 2020–21 season was Motherwell's thirty-sixth consecutive season in the top flight of Scottish football, having been promoted from the Scottish First Division at the end of the 1984–85 season. Season review Pre-season On 17 June, UEFA announced that all UEFA Europa League qualifying and playoffs rounds would be played over one-leg, instead of the usual two, with Motherwell's First Round match taking place on 27 August. On 23 June, Declan Gallagher was announced as the club's new captain, with Trevor Carson being appointed vice-captain after former captain Peter Hartley left the club at the end of the previous season. On 24 June, Motherwell announced that they had giving permission to manager Stephen Robinson to discuss the vacant Northern Ireland managerial position. Motherwell F
Motherwell (, ) is a town and former burgh in North Lanarkshire, Scotland, United Kingdom, south east of Glasgow. It has a population of around 32,120. Historically in the parish of Dalziel and part of Lanarkshire, Motherwell is the headquarters for North Lanarkshire Council. Geographically the River Clyde separates Motherwell from Hamilton to the west whereas the South Calder Water separates Motherwell from Carfin to the north-east and New Stevenston and Bellshill towards the north. Motherwell is also geographically attached to Wishaw and the two towns form a large urban area in North Lanarkshire, with both towns having similar populations and strong community ties. Declan Gallagher
Declan Patrick Gallagher (born 13 February 1991) is a Scottish footballer who plays as a centre back for Ross County. Gallagher started his career at Celtic but never made a first team appearance, however he was involved in their Scottish Youth Cup win in 2010. He was then sent out on loan to Stranraer to gain some first team experience. Despite impressing while on loan, he was released and was signed by Clyde before moving on to join Dundee. After experiencing a relegation followed by a promotion in two seasons at Dens Park, he joined Livingston in 2014. In 2016, Gallagher was imprisoned for more than a year for assault which took place three years earlier. Gallagher returned to Livingston after his release from jail, and he played regularly during their consecutive promotions to the top division between 2017 and 2018. Scott Fox (born 28 June 1987) is a Scottish professional goalkeeper who is a free agent. He has previously played for Celtic, East Fife, Queen of the South, Dundee, Ross County, Partick Thistle, Greenock Morton, Motherwell and Cove Rangers. Fox was selected by Scotland National Football Team manager Gordon Strachan to be part of the national squad to face Norway in 2013. Club career Celtic Fox began his career at Celtic. However, he never made an appearance for the club. During his time at Celtic, he was part of the side that won the double of under-19 league and the Scottish Youth Cup in 2005 and 2006. Harry David Robinson (born 26 September 2000) is a Northern Irish footballer who plays as a midfielder for Clyde. Robinson has previously played for Motherwell, Glenavon, Oldham Athletic and also Crusaders and Queen of the South with loan spells. Club career Robinson started his career with Ridgeway Rovers. Barry Paul Maguire (born 27 April 1998) is a Scottish professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for club Hamilton Academical. Maguire is a product of the Motherwell Academy and spent the second half of the 2018–19 season on loan at Queen of the South. He broke into the Motherwell first team over the next few seasons, before going on loan in the second half of the 2022–23 season on loan at Dundee, with whom he would win the Scottish Championship.
