2020–21 Harrogate Town A.F.C. Season
The 2020–21 season was the first season Harrogate Town played in the Football League following their promotion from the National League in the previous season. They competed in League Two, the fourth tier of English football, alongside the FA Cup, EFL Cup, and EFL Trophy. The club began the season at the Keepmoat Stadium in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, whilst a grass pitch was installed at their traditional Wetherby Road stadium in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. Background The 2019–20 season saw Harrogate Town finish second in the National League, and thus qualified for the play-offs. Harrogate Town A
Harrogate ( ) is a spa town and civil parish in the district and county of North Yorkshire, England. Historically in the West Riding of Yorkshire, the town is a tourist destination; its visitor attractions include its spa waters and RHS Harlow Carr gardens. Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Nidderdale AONB are away from the town centre. In the 17th century, Harrogate grew out of two smaller settlements, High Harrogate and Low Harrogate. The English Football League Trophy, officially known as the Vertu Motors, Vertu Trophy for sponsorship reasons, is an annual English association football, football knockout competition open to all clubs in EFL League One and EFL League Two and Professional Development League, U-21 teams from the Premier League and the EFL Championship. Jake Lawlor (English Footballer)
Jacob Christopher Lawlor (born 8 April 1991) is an English professional footballer who plays as a defender for club Guiseley. Lawlor played youth football for Manchester United, but was released at the age of 14, and subsequently played non-league football for Liversedge, Ossett Town and Harrogate Railway Athletic before joining Guiseley in 2013. He had a loan spell at AFC Fylde in 2018, before being released by Guiseley later that year and subsequently joining Salford City in July 2018. However, he joined Wrexham just two months later, having not made an appearance for Salford City. He was released by Wrexham in summer 2020 and joined newly promoted League Two side Harrogate Town. Connor Alexander Kirby (born 10 September 1998) is an English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Buxton. He has previously had spells at Macclesfield Town, Altrincham and started his career at Sheffield Wednesday. Sam Jones (footballer, Born 1991)
Samuel Isaac Jones (born 18 September 1991) is a former professional footballer who played as an attacking midfielder and centre forward. A Welsh former U19 International, Jones started his career with Leeds United as a youngster, before taking a break from the game to travel Australia. After returning to England, he played for Retford United and Heanor Town, ending the latter as their top goalscorer in the 2014–15 season. He then spent the next season at Alfreton Town where he was also top goalscorer. 2020 National League Play-off Final
The 2020 National League play-off final , known as the Vanarama National League Promotion Final for sponsorship reasons, was a football match contested between Harrogate Town and Notts County to determine the second and final team to gain promotion from the National League to EFL League Two. It was played on 2 August 2020 at Wembley Stadium in London. The first-placed team of the 2019–20 National League season ( Barrow) gained automatic promotion to the League Two, while the teams placed from fourth to seventh in the table took part in play-off quarter-finals and teams placed second and third received byes to the semi-finals. The winners of the quarter-finals advanced to play the teams in the semi-finals and the winners of these semi-finals competed for the final place in League Two.
