The 2020–21 Handball-Bundesliga was the 56th season of the Handball-Bundesliga, Germany's premier handball league and the 44th season consisting of only one league. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the league announced 1 October 2020 as the start date and the season ended on 27 June 2021. As there were no relegated teams last season, this season is being played with 20 teams. THW Kiel won their twenty-second overall and second consecutive title. HSG Wetzlar is a professional handball club from Wetzlar, Germany. It competes in the top-tier Handball-Bundesliga and in the DHB-Pokal, German Handball Cup. They have played in the Bundesliga since 1998 without relegation. History The modern club was founded in 1992 by a fusion of TSV Dutenhofen and Münchholzhausen, which were founded in 1904 and 1909 respectively. SC DHfK Leipzig Handball is a German handball team from Leipzig, Germany, that plays in the Handball-Bundesliga. It was one of the strongest GDR clubs in late 1950s and 1960s. History The SC DHfK Leipzig was founded in 1954 as a sports club of the ''Deutsche Hochschule für Körperkultur'' (German University for Physical Culture). During the time in the GDR, the club's handball section won six national championships (1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1965, 1966) and won the GDR Cup twice. In addition, it won the EHF Champions League in the 1965/1966 season and defeated Budapest Honvéd in the final on 22 April 1966 (16:14). The origins of the club lie with the sports association Freie Turnerschaft Burgdorf, which was founded in 1922, with a handball department. Füchse Berlin is a professional handball club from Berlin, Germany, that currently competes in the Handball-Bundesliga, the highest national league, and in EHF competitions.
