2020–21 Belgian National Division 1
The 2020–21 Belgian National Division 1 was the fifth season of the third-tier football league in Belgium and the first under its new name after changing from ''First Amateur Division'' to ''National Division 1''. Eventually, the season was cancelled in January 2021 with just a few matches played, as measures taken by the Belgian government against the spread of COVID-19 prohibited amateur football. Just before the season started, Roeselare went bankrupt. Initially, it seemed as though a third-party would be willing to take over the club, with Roeselare forfeiting its first two matches while negotiations continued, eventually however the club folded and the league was to be played with only 15 teams. Belgian National Division 1
The Belgian Division 1 is a semi-professional division and the third-highest division in the Football in Belgium, Belgian football Belgian football league system, league system, one level below the Challenger Pro League. It was created by the Royal Belgian Football Association in 2016, coming in at the third level and pushing all divisions one level down. Initially it was known as the ''Belgian First Amateur Division'', but due to the negative connotation of the word ''amateur'' the league was renamed to Belgian National Division 1 from the 2019–20 season onwards. 2019–20 Belgian First Division B
The 2019–20 season of the Belgian First Division B began in August 2019 and was scheduled to end in April 2020 but will eventually conclude on 2 August 2020 with the return leg of the promotion playoff. Since mid-March all matches had been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Belgium, coronavirus pandemic, which was just a few days before the return leg of the promotion play-offs was to be played. A few weeks later, K.S.C. Lokeren Oost-Vlaanderen, Lokeren was declared bankrupt and ceased to exist, while both K.S.V. Roeselare, Roeselare and R.E. Virton, Virton were refused a professional football license due to financial difficulties, meaning they were both relegated and no relegation play-offs were necessary. The Kingdom of Belgium is divided into three Communities, regions, and language areas of Belgium, regions. Two of these regions, Flanders and Wallonia, are each subdivided into five provinces. José Riga
José Riga (born 30 July 1957) is a Belgian football manager and former player. He had a fifteen-year playing career as a midfielder, beginning in 1974 when he joined C.S. Visé. He remained with the club for eleven years, before joining fellow Belgian club JS Haccourt in 1985. He played for JS Haccourt for four years. Two years after retiring from playing, he became JS Haccourt's manager. Riga managed JS Haccourt for five years, departing in 1996. Belgian Provincial Leagues
The Belgian Provincial leagues are the lower leagues for Belgian football. Until 2016, these were at levels 5-8 in the Belgian football league system however as part of the reform an extra level was created causing the provincial leagues to drop to levels 6-9. The provincial leagues are divided into 9 regional league systems (one for each province, but Flemish Brabant and Walloon Brabant are merged and contain also the football teams from the Brussels Capital Region). Each league system is itself divided into 4 levels (except for Luxembourg where there are only 3). The number of leagues at each level depends on the province, but every province must have only one league at the top level. Koninklijke Lierse Sportkring is a Belgian association football club located in Lier, in the province of Antwerp. RFC Seraing is a Belgian association football club based in Seraing in the province of Liège. They play their home games at the Stade du Pairay. The club currently compete in Challenger Pro League, the second tier of Belgian football. Daring Brussels, formerly known as Racing White Daring Molenbeek or RWDM, is a Belgian professional football club based in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, Brussels. The club plays in the Challenger Pro League (second tier). The club is seen in Belgium as a continuation of previous clubs with the same name that went out of business. History The club was founded in 2015, Standard Wetteren had folded that year and merged with another club, liberating its ''matricule'' which was sold to people wanting to revive the former RWDM with matricule 47 which folded in 2002.
