The 2020–21 season was the 117th season in the existence of Bayer 04 Leverkusen and the club's 42nd consecutive season in the top flight of German football. In addition to the domestic league, Bayer 04 Leverkusen also participated in this season's edition of the DFB-Pokal as well as the UEFA Europa League. Julian Jakob Baumgartlinger (born 2 January 1988) is an Austrian former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Career Growing up in the Austrian market town of Mattsee, Baumgartlinger began playing football at local USC Mattsee at age five. In 2001, he left Austria to join the renowned youth academy of 1860 Munich. There he ran through all the youth teams and eventually was called to their first team in 2007. Patrik Schick (born 24 January 1996) is a Czech professional footballer who plays as a striker for club Bayer Leverkusen and the Czech Republic national team. Born in Prague, Schick began his career with local club Sparta Prague, rising through their youth ranks, before making his senior debut as a teenager. Edmond Fayçal Tapsoba (born 2 February 1999) is a Burkinabé professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen and the Burkina Faso national team.
