2020–21 AZ Alkmaar Season
The 2020–21 AZ Alkmaar season was the club's 54th season in existence and the 23rd consecutive season in the top flight of Dutch football. In addition to the domestic league, AZ participated in this season's editions of the KNVB Cup, the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League. The season covered the period from 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2021. On 5 December 2020, manager Arne Slot was sacked following rumors that he was negotiating to become the new manager of Feyenoord for the following season. Alkmaar Zaanstreek (), better known internationally as AZ Alkmaar, or simply and most commonly as AZ () in the Netherlands, is a Dutch professional Association football, football club from Alkmaar and the Zaan#The Zaan district, Zaan district. Teun Koopmeiners (; born 28 February 1998) is a Dutch professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for club Juventus FC, Juventus and the Netherlands national football team, Netherlands national team. Calvin Stengs (; born 18 December 1998) is a Dutch professional footballer who plays as a winger for club Feyenoord and the Netherlands national team. A product of the AZacademy, Stengs broke into the first team during the 2017–18 season. Fredrik Midtsjø (born 11 August 1993) is a Norwegian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Süper Lig club Eyüpspor. Midtsjø began his professional career at Norwegian club Rosenborg in 2010.
